A total of 87,130 birds in 29 lots sold for an average price of 22 78 cents, a jump of about a cent and quarter from the pre ceding week The price range •was from 21% to 24M, cents Besides the broilers, 700 Leg horn fowl sold for 12% cents and three lots of capettes, 2,950 head, sold for 24% cents to 25% cents. Demand was good tor slaughter steers this week and with more than the usual number ol buyers in the market prices were strong to fully 50 cents high er on fed steers. Cooler weather was a factor in allowing prices of dressed beef in eastern consum ing centers to advance as much as $l-3 per hundredweight Cows closed the week about steady, bulls fully steady. With farmers busy in harvest fields trading was slow on stocker and feeder steers with prices on those holding about steady. Bulk of the choice fed steers 1,000-1,250 lbs sold from $23 50- 24.75, high choice and mixed choice - and prime brought $25- 25.75 and 10 head 1,174 lb pume steers earned $26.50. A load high choice 1,356 lb steer came in for some price discrimination because ol the weight but sold at $24 75 Most good and low choice steers brought $2l 50-23, with some stan dard and low good $l9 50-21 50 The small supply of heifers in cluded a fed good and low choice from $l9 50-21.50 Bulk of the cutter, utility and commercial cows sold from $l3-16, odd head commercial $16.25.
