COLLEGE SONGS We are publishing, in accord with our student service policy, a list of our college songs. These are the songs that have been sung at “STATE” for many generations. They are a part of college life. All of us know the pleasure we can get from singing songs we know and love. We all have thrilled to the good fellowship that such singing engenders. Let's learn these songs and poin in heartily whenever they are sung. PENN STATE COLLEGE ALMA MATER For the glory of Old State, For her founders strong and great For the futures that we wait, Raise the song, raise the song. Sing our love and loyalty, Sing our hopes that, bright and free Rest, O Mother dear, with thee, All with thee, all with thee. When we stood at boyhood’s gate, Shapless in the hands of Fate; Thou didst mould us, dear old State, Into men, into men. May no act of ours bring shame To one heart that loves thy name; May our lives help swell thy fame, Dear Old State, Dear Old State. VICTORY SONG Come now, classmen, let us sing, Royally support the team; We’re here today with our colors gay, Ready to win the fray . . . Whether it be Pitt or Penn Harvard or Cornell, Play the game, every man, And we will win today. Chorus Fight, fight, fight, for the Blue and White, Victory will our slogan be; Dear Alma Mater, fairest of all, Thy loyal sons will obey thy call To fight, fight, fight, with all their might Ever the goal to gain; Into the game for Penn State’s fame, Fight on to victory, All along the line. (Chorus repeat) THE NITTANY LION Every college has a legend Passed on from year to year, To which they pledge allegiance And always cherish dear; But of ali the honored idols, There’s but one which stands the test, It’s the stately Nittany Lion, The symbol of our best. Chorus Hail to the Lion, Loyal and true, Hail Alma Mater with your White and Blue. Penn State forever, Mother of men, Fight for her honor, FIGHT! And Victory again. There’s old Pittsburgh with its panther And Penn red and blue; Dartmouth with its Indian And Yale, her bulldog, too. There’s old Princeton with its tiger, And Cornell with its bear But speaking now of vict’ry We’ll get the lion’s share. Since 1895 PURE AS THE MOUNTAIN AIR HAZLETON COLLEGIAN Blue Book Blues DEAR “MERRY”— I am writing this letter to the strains of “Til’ Eulenspiegel.” I’ll give you two guesses as to what class I’m in. Things are really buzzing at HUC, that’s why I have to deprive myself of some of these most im portant music notes and write to you instead. I’ll start by telling you about the girls first and save the man element latter. Last Tuesday the freshmen women were invited to a covered dish supper held by the sophomore women. The purpose of this affair was to pledge in the freshmen women besides giving them dishpan hands. The sad part of the evening was that not only did we have to bring our own food, but we had to wash every dish and anything else that resembled one. I’l bet you can’t imagine who washed? That’s right, yours truly did the job. We used a system resembling the assembly line at Lockheeed; Now for the really humiliating part of be longing to a sorority! All pledges must wear for three days, a comical hat of our own creation, and a green and yellow bow around our ankle. Everytime we see a sophomore mem ber of the Omiga Chi Tau Sorority we have to bow from the waist down. Oh woe, and I thought we were free from freshmen antics. Did I tell you about the women’s bowling team? Well, wait till you hear this one. They were supposed to play the feminine members of the fa culty last Thursday, but evidently, the ladies prefer to remain teachers instead of being taught, because they never showed up at the appointed FASHIONS for CLASS & CAMPUS Famous Brands in Clothes . . . The student council is having a Turkey Trot on the 26th of this month. It is free of charge and open to all students of HUC. The attire will be informal and a good time is promised to all. I’ll write later and give you every detail. Now for that ever interesting top ic “The Men”. What a conglamora tion of the male sex! HUC could fill any girl’s desire. The men range from 6 ft. 6 in. to about 5 ft. Some are thin and some pleasingly plump, while there are still others who have managed to attain a happy medium. The main thing, however, is their personalities. I must confess that on the whole they are perfect gentle men. As for conduct in class, they just can’t be beat in class participa tion. They really are applying them selves and making an honest to good ness effort to learn something. Not only are they good students but they are conversationalists. What a sense of humor they possess. Laughter is certainly in abundance when they are around. Miss Garbrick, that’s the music teacher, just started to say some thing about a bassoon. I got fright ened for a minute. I thought she had called me a big baboon. Guess I bet ter listen for awhile now so I’ll close with a perfect cadence. A perfect ca dence, my dear Merry, is something in music that corresponds to a pe riod. See, I’m learning! Artie: Where is the capitol of the United States? Louie: That should be asked of the treasurer. 1876 76 Years of Service 1946 HAZLETON Y. M. C. A. MEN—MEET YOUR FRIENDS HERE!
