SGA PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR 1988- Candace Canady What have you done for SGA in the past? During the freshman „orientation, the reigning president, Mark Ryan, gave a speech on The Student Government. ing that I didn't know anyone, I thought it would be a good way to meet people and learn about the campus. Since that time I have become actively involved at the Hazleton Campus. In October I was elected as a Senator for the Student GOvernment as was my running mate Tracy Fisher. She has also demonstrated her leadership abilities as the Vice President of Bacchus. I also went to the first CCSG meeting at University Park as the freshman Representative for Hazleton. For the past month I have been organizing and preparing the campus for the 1988 Semi Formal and Awards Banquet to be held on April 15 at Genetti's. Slso On Feb. 20 I went to University Park, as a representative for the Hazleton Campus, to be morale for the 1988 dance marathon, for chil dron with cancer. lam also a Collegian Staff member. As you can see we care a great deal about this campus and its students. I feel that as president I can make a beneficial contribution to building a better student life. As president I hope to work on and solve many of the problems of this year., Such as the parking problem and the expansion of the commons. I also would like to work on the relationship and communication between the faculty and the studentd. Our main objective is to be there for the students. To do things to benefit them. Every and all thoughts, comm ents and ideas, will always be welcome, and we are always open to suggestion. In conclusion we would like to say that all students arc allowed to vote, and we encourage you to do so for the welfare of the campus in' ele year to come. Thank you for your support!!! I decided to attend the first SGA meeting, hoping to meet new people and get involved with school activities. Since then, I have not only been on the Committee for the expansion of the Commons but also assisted SUB, OTIS, CHORUS, and the Collegian in decision making. Likewise, my running mate, Tony Stevens, has been working on campus projects. He is the chairperson of the Campus Upkeep and Improvement Committee and the SUB Social Committee. He was partially responsible for the Student/Faculty Break fasts and has worked on some sort of games and activities on campus. As you can see, we devote a good percentage of our time to making college life better. "What do you plan to do as President of SGA?" I don't feel it is a question of what I plan to do as president. The presidents job is to work with the administration to benefit the students. I will say that if elect ed, I plan to dedicate my time to the betterment of this campus. As you know, construction of the new bookstore and plans have been set for the Academic Center. This leaves the expansion of the commons and a solut ion for the parking problem. As the pres ident of SGA I would see to it that these subjects were followed up on and insure an agreement that would suit the students' needs. MARCH GRISZIO FOR OH 401 My vicepresident (Tony Stevens) agrees with me when I say that the students of the Hazleton Campus need more inter action, not only with each other but with the faculty as well. We will continue them next year and make them even more enjoyable. The main thing to remember is that the student government association is ineffect ive without the support of the students. Without you, the offices Tony and I are campaigning for are worthless. If you do nothing else during your stay at Hazleton, at least vote on March 28,29 and 30th, in the Kostos Building and the Commons. Ofcourse, I would like you to vote for Tony and me. However, if you disagree with our plans for a better campus then voice your opinion in that way. If you vote for Tony and I, we will know that you are casting a vote for a better campus and want more. Everyone enrolled here at Hazleton has the right to vote, and I strongly urge you to do so. In con clusion, if you have any ideas, or if there is something you would like to see happen on campus, let SGA know about it. If enough support is given to a topic, SGA will do its best to satisfy the students' wants and needs. Thank you for your support. -Jay Shoemaker Tony Stevens "Dedicated to Excellence" NEW IDEAS 29, VOTE FOR 1/S4 fiIRVEY RNC
