Page 2—The Highacres Collegian, October 10,1977 From the Desk of the S.G.A. President Nancy Klotsko An important aspect of life here at Highacres is the social life—specifically the clubs. This year, so far, three new clubs have been started; the Highacres Video Engineering (HAVE), Outings Club, and the Weightlifting Club. This means that Highacres now has twenty-seven clubs. There is, on campus, a council of club presidents called the Highacres Club Advisory Council (H.C.A.C.). This group meets every Tuesday at 12:45 in the S.G.A. office to give club presidents a chance to tell other club presidents what activities their club is planning, to ask for cooperation from the other clubs in staging the events (such as help in moving the tables in the Commons before and after a dance), and to ask advice on how to make the event a success. It also gives the clubs a chance to compare ideas, thus helping to avoid the scheduling of two events on the same day or at the same time. Notable events that H.C.A.C. sponsored last year were the March of Dimes Walk-a- Thon and the Mark Lane lecture. An H.C.A.C. event is an event cooperatively sponsored by all the clubs on campus. STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS will be held soon. There are ten Senatorial seats open and everyone is eligible to run. Signs will be appearing soon with further in formation regarding the elections. THE HIGHACRES COLLEGIAN David Kraft... Cathy Rusinko James Dino... James Ferry Patricia Marsh ... EDITORIAL OPINIONS Many students who purchase their meals at the snack bar in the Commons have realized a sudden increase in food prices. The price increase cannot be blamed on Food Services. Each dollar Food Services pays for food must be accompanied by an additional two dollars which is used for maintenance wages, upkeep of equipment, waste disposal and other expenses. Inflation is also a major factor determining prices In order to prevent a price increase, Food Services would probably have to purchase lower quality materials. One major area of concern is the condition of the Commons after meals. If students are responsible and clean up their table when they are finished, personnel would not have to be hired to clear off the tables and clean the floors covered with trash. Students were given sufficient warning stating that if the Commons was not kept clean, in the longrun students would have to pay. Although prices were temporarily raised this year, Food Ser vices has decided to lower prices again without reducing food quality. One reason for this change is that students have recently been cleaning the tables after they finish their meal. Hopefully this trend will continue and the Commons will be kept clean thanks to the efforts of conscientious students. The prices in the Commons are still lower than in town for the same items. If prices are to remain lower, students must be considerate of others.
