Follow Up: Letter gets results Who said you can’t beat city hall? In last month's issue of the Highacres Collegian, a letter to the Editor was printed in which four Highacres students described the stairs located between the Sophomore parking lot and the Faculty parking lot as "a threat to students." The students stated that the stairs, "being made of metal, become very slippery when wet and it is very easy for someone to fa 11..." They also made men tion of the fact that the stair railing was broken and theret fore "does not inhibit falls." The students suggested that the stairs be rebuilt using concrete, so that they "could be salted very easily during the winter." Rubber matting was suggested as an alternative. The Collegian investigated this matter and found that an improvement was made as a di rect result of the letter. Because of the letter, the broken railing was investigated by the maintenance department and repaired. In an interview with Mr. Paul Cehula, business manager at, Highacres, it was discovered that at the time the concrete walkway leading to the stairs was installed, bids were taken to build concrete steps in place of the metal steps in question. However, due to, the size of the bids and insuffi cient funds the project was postponed. Cerula said that bids are again being taken to build the joncrete steps sometime in the lear future. Button bombs The library button campaign is in trouble. Originally, the money col lected frpm the sale of the buttons was to help defray the costs of the framing of art prints purchased by the lib rary. To date only $lOO had been collected; this will barely cover the cost of having the buttons made. The buttons are still on sale in the library. A dona tion of 25 cents is requested. SUB Pres protests theft Mae Student Union Board had recently purchased five hanging plants for the lower floor of the Commons Building. The Board had hoped this pur chase would lead to the crea tion of a more pleasant atmo sphere in the Commons Lounge. Unfortunately, this was not possible, since all of the hanging plants have been stolen. The Board feels that this act of thievery was uncalled for, and that it has destroyed the plans we had made for future renovations. The Board had placed much faith in the integ rity of the students of the Hazleton Campus. It is now ob vious that there are some stu dents that not only lack in tegrity, but are common thieves that should not have even en tertained the thought of at-, tending college.
