LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor, Culture is here! Arrangements are being made to have speakers from the Federal State Depart ment lecture here. In the spring, Mr. Sam Levine of the Bureau of Drugs is going to speak about narcotics. Besides these events the Arts & Culture Committee has set up a Foreign Film Festival (the first of its kind at High acres.) The first foreign film, "Brandy for the Parson", which was shown on Oct. 21, 1966, h a d an attend ance of 20 movie watchers plus the projectionist. Among the 21 in attendance, not one person was officially there for the Collegian. Like other events at Highacres, the attendance of the movie proved the greatest asset of High a cres to be student apathy. It seems to me that the students themselves are culturally inept. I don't think Highacres should be labeled as a "cultural poverty area", because culture is avail able to those students who care enough to participate. The Cultural Committee always welcomes any ideas as to what can be done to bring more culture to Highacres. However, so far very few ideas have been suggested, or those who have Bade a few sug gestions were unwilling to help put the idea over. Should there be anyone willing to help put > over new ideas please contact Sharon Fellin, chairman of Arts & Culture or Lucy Chucot, co-chairman of Arts & Culture. Sincerely yours, Sharon Fellin Dear Editor, I am not writing this letter: as a protest or a letter to shame some people. This letter is simply to tell the student body how I feel. On Student Apathy Student apathy is one of our greatest assets. let it is an asset which we can be proud of. First of all, I personally wish to express my thanks to all of you for not voting during the S.G.A. elections. It made the job of counting the votes much easier. After all, the S.G.A. is only the committee set up by and for the student body. This is how my sentiment runs— either vote for what you want or take what you get. Actually, less than 50$ of you, whoever you may be, can really convince me that they are int erested in the school. If you are interested, you certainly are not putting up a good fight in the right way. Since the S.G.A. elections were held, a mock election was held for the prospective governors. Mow this was really somethingl M o re people voted during the mock election than during the S.G.A. election. And the ironic thing is that the governor's election . I didn't mean anything. The S.G.A. elections are for your own benefit. Is this poor turnout to exemplify your feelings of Highacres? D€ course maybe we should be glad. At least those who fnnn for S.G./i. might have a little bit of interest and will welcome the chance to work. But of course we always have the pro blem of prestige. There have also been S.G.A.s in the past where the people were there for the prestige. When asked about it they replied much to the sense, "We are here to delegate not to do any decorating for we are the decorations." Well, this is also bad. Prestige for its own sake will
