News Gilmore applies for provost post, By James P. Kushlan Dr. Harold L. Gilmore, fired last month from his position as Head of the Division of Business Administration, has applied for the office of Provost/Dean of Capitol Campus. In a telephone interview on Oc tober 8, the evening before he left for India on a Fulbright grant, Gilmore said he was going to in form the University Park ad ministration of his application for Capitol’s highest post. “I think I’m qualified,” he said. Gilmore, a Professor of Management, was removed from his position as head of the Business Division August 31 by Dr. Stanley N. Miller, Acting Provost/Dean. Gilmore retains a teaching position here, though. Miller, speaking through Michael J. Breslin, Director of Campus Relations, continued to decline comment on any reasons for Gilmore’s firing. Gilmore said he received a letter from Jordan the day before he was to leave for India. “The letter did not speak to the issue of the fact that I had been removed from the division head position, nor did it address the reason wherefore,” he said. “I don’t think any will ever be offered.” Gilmore is now in India on a Fulbright grant, to lecture and consult. If Gilmore isn’t chosen as Pro vost/Dean in the Spring, he said, he would ask to work in absentia from Capitol Campus for the re mainder of the year. He said Jor dan is in the process of facilitating a temporary assign ment to University Park for Spring 1984. If this assignment were not granted, Gilmore wants to revise his book on product evaluation. Gilmore said he had been under the impression a University Park evaluation of his firing would be made. In Jordan’s let ter, Gilmore said, the University President told him not to make any commitments in the areas of faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative research.
