Unlike the main campus, voter turnout doubled at Capitol, while turnout at University Park fell 3% from last year’s election. “We had just over 200 voters last year,” said Tom Halley, outgoing SGA President at Capitol. “It certainly is en couraging to see more students going out to vote.” Halley credited the increase in voter turnout to hard campaign ing by the candidates. ..129 “When you have vying for the same spot and campaigning hard, it creates an interest in voters,” Halley said. ..118 On April 11, the three presiden tial candidates participated in a live debate in the Lion’s Den. Amidst the lunchtime crowd, the three answered questions from a moderator on topics rang ing from the semester change to the proposed change in Penn State’s grading system. A special floor microphone was available for members of the au dience to come up to ask ques tions of the presidential hopefuls. Each candidate was permitted two minutes to answer questions asked by the moderator and one minute to answer questions from the floor. Through audio hookups, the event was recorded and later broadcast over WNDR, who co sponsored the program with Capitol Times. Equipment from Audio-visual services permitted the program to be video taped by members of a production class. Following editing, a 36 minute tape of the program was later played in the dormitory cafeteria. Buchfeller, Dekle, and Oddo agreed to participate in the debate through invitation, and were briefed before the program Joe Hart
