February 17, 1972 Pass-Fail Officially The University's satisfactory unsatisfactory grading system will now be officially called the pass-fail system. The decision was made at a recent meeting of the Faculty Senate at which several" faculty said they felt the old system was inadequate. They said they could not consider a "D" grade as satisfactory work. Instead of receiving an "S" or "U" for a course, a student will now receive a "PS" or "Fl" on their transcripts. The old satisfactory unsatisfactory system made a "U" grade less distinguishable than an "F" on a student's UP Conference Held For Political Science Commonwealth Campus students interested in a preview of life at University Park will have an opportunity on Saturday. The Faculty Senate amended and passed a proposal to keep students informed of the purposes and consequences of pass-fail through all means at their disposal, including the student handbook, orientation program and advising and registration. - The Faculty Senate Committee on Academic Affairs asked for more time to study a recom mendation that pass-fail be made available to associate degree students, which, if passed, would allow associate degree students to take from six to nine credits under the option. suggestions, for courses for all related majors (i.e. pre-law. foreign service, public service. etc.) Also an informal afternoon coffee hour will be held for faculty and students.
