The Penn State Behrend
women’s tennis team had quite
a bit of success this season tak
ing a 13-4 overall record (9-1 in
the conference) into the AMCC
tournament this weekend at the
Oxford Club in Wexford, PA.
The Lions, with all of their
starters returning from last
year, are tied for first at the top
of the conference after falling
to Frostburg State (4-5) early in
the season marking their only
conference loss.
Since that loss the team re
bounded, going on an 11-1 run
losing only to Grove City to fin
ish out the season.
The team plays under head
coach Jeff Barger, who is enter
ing his twelfth year at the posi
tion.
Barger has led the ladies ten
nis team to seven AMCC titles
in the last 10 years, including
four straight since 2004.
“I feel very good about our
chances. We are playing well
right now,” Barger said. “As
long as we avoid any upsets we
should be near the top. I give
our doubles teams a good
chance to win and all of our sin
gles players should do well.”
WOMEN’S SOCCER
The women's soccer team defeated conference opponent Laßoche
by a score of 4-1. The Lions'goals were scored by four different play
ers. Freshman Meredith Gipson scored one and had an assist. An
other was scored by junior Jaclyn Stottlemyer, who gave Behrend a
2-1 lead after Laßoche tied it up. Just before half-time, Julia Schroek
scored to give the Lions a 3-1 lead. Freshman Valerie Wagner scored
the final goal of the game within the first minute of the second half to
produce the final score of 4-1.

victory this weekend,”
Hobaugh said. "We won't leave
the court until the title is won.
Our competition is not easy;
skill and attitude are key.”
Hobaugh plans on making a
run at the all-time record for ca
