killing roughly 25 million people, including over
500,000 Americans, and has negatively affected
the lives of countless human beings. There is no

ness of this deadly and devastating disease.
Many organizations have been formed to help
enhance the effect that AIDS Day has and the
amount of people that it touches. U 2 frontman
Bono founded an organization, called RED, that
has really helped to expand AIDS awareness not
only in America. hut all over the world. Bono has
secured various powerful companies' support and
aid through his RED campaign. These companies
include Emporio Armani. GAP, Apple. American
Express. Converse and Motorola, and they all
have manufactured and sold a line of RED items.
These items can he purchased. and a percentage of
the money a consumer spends on them is given to
RED. who then transfers it to the purchase of anti
retroviral medicines that can help keep people suf
fering from AIDS alive. They send these pills to
the people of Africa. where roughly 5,500 people
die as a result of the HIV virus daily.

Author of FISH! and several other books about the FISH! Philosophy, Harry Paul spoke on campus
Wednesday, Dec. 6. The theme of his lecture was, "You can't always do what you love, but you can always
love what you do."
Paul also spoke about creating a better work environment, which in turn creates better customer service,
which in turn creates a profitable business. Many large corporations such as Sprint, Applebee's and Citizens
First Bank practice the FISH! Philosophy. The philosophy is based on several mantras—Be There, Play,
Make Their Day and Choose Your Attitude. By following these steps, corporations can expect improve
ments in productivity, employee morale and customer service.

disease-stricken people; they encourage con
sumers to purchase one of their RED products if
possible. so that they can help those less fortunate
than themselves. The RED manifesto, which can
be found on their popular website,
www.joinred.com, states very clearly the reason-
describe their
mission, how the donations work and how the
medication will help many people.
Bono recently addressed the nation through a
video made for Internet video powerhouse
You Tube, and he pleaded with the world to help
the cause to fight AIDS. He spoke about the neg
ligence of providing these ailing people with the
inexpensive medication that their lives depend on.
He said, "This is mad. You are not mad to think
that we can do something about this. Join RED for
World Aids Day. Go to joinred.com." Bono is
doing a very noble thing attempting to help these
people, and it is something that can easily be done.
Go to www.joinred.com and find information on
how you can help those battling AIDS without the
monetary funds to do so themselves.

Sorority organizes benefit for injured sister

While many Penn State Behrend students are fret
ting over last minute assignments and upcoming
finals, one student is fretting over matters of life and
death. Junior Biology major Jennifer Hughes
recently learned that her childhood friend. former
dance team, choir, musical and gymnastics partner
Sophie Baker was involved in a tragic accident.
Hughes says her 21-year-old friend and her hus
band Jared went to check on their friend, 32-year
old Patrick Henry, at his home in New Castle on
Monday, November 28, 2006. The couple was con
cerned about Henry's well-being because of previ
ous comments he made about wanting to harm him
self. The couple was outside Henry's home when
Baker smelled natural gas. According to Jared,
Sophie began running from the scene and the house
blew up shortly after.
State Police fire marshall ruled arson as the cause
of the explosion. The incident was also ruled inten
tional as evidence had been found confirming that
the gas service line into the house was tampered
with and disconnected from one of the appliances in
the basement, in an attempt to commit suicide.
According to Hughes, Jared Baker and Henry
were flown to Mercy Hospital where they were list
ed in critical condition: Jared Baker was later
released. Sophie Baker, however. was taken to
Jameson Hospital in New Castle and later flown to
West Penn Hospital's burn trauma center where she
was listed in critical condition and later, serious
condition. Hughes says her condition is no longer

The Bakers did not have insurance at the time of
the incident because they were recently married.
The Friday after the incident. Sophie would have
