The Behrend Lady Lions finished
out 1-1 in another rocky week as the
team continues play in the second half
of the season. After defeating con
ference rival Pitt-Greensburg Satur
day, the team lost to Case Western Re
serve in a 6-0 route on Wednesday.
The pressure continues to mount with
only a few weeks left in the regular
season.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, Behrend
traveled to Cleveland to take on Case
Western in a non-conference match.
The Lady Lions suffered a 6-0 loss,
their worst of the season, as a talented
CWR moved to 8-1-2. Alicia
Bardierri and Laura Stokes each had
two goals for Case Western.
Behrend's record dropped to 8-3.
"We didn't get off to a good start,"
said Coach Dan Perritano.
"We struggled from the begin-
ning."
Case Western scored three times in
the first half, and capitalized three
more times in the second half.
Perritano said the competing against
a very fast Case Western team "would
make us better down the road."
Despite the loss at CWR, the Lady
Lions picked up a very important 2-0
AMCC win last Saturday against a
Pitt-Greensburg team that's been on
fire.
The Bobcats had a six game win
ning streak snapped, after junior Jen
Baker and sophomore Kacie Burns
each scored in the first half, giving
Behrend the win.

The Men's Soccer team defeated Pitt-
Greensburg on Saturday October 4th
by a score of 3- I to take sole posses
sion of first place in the Allegheny
Mountain Collegiate Conference.
The Lions controlled the game from
beginning to end, in what was prob
ably the most important matchup of
the regular season for Behrend.
The Lions were defeated in last
year's AMCC championship game in
overtime by Greensburg, and used
that game as motivation for Saturday.
"It was the biggest motivator I'd
have to say. It was pretty bad losing
in overtime to them last year when we
had the lead, " said junior forward
Eric Nyberg.
Behrend improved to 6-2-2 with an
undefeated 3-0 conference record.
The Panthers dropped to 8-2-1 with a
2-1 conference record. Both teams
have three conference matches left
before the start of the AMCC tourna
ment on Nov. 5.

ries win in 95 years, winning in
five games against the Atlanta
Braves on the backs of pitchers

Shortstop Alex Gonzalez is tied

assisted by sophomore midfielder
Mark Cipriani.
The final I I minutes of the half
were scoreless and the Lions went
into halftime with a solid 2-0 lead.
Behrend played mistake-free, re
lentless defense the entire game. The
offense kicked in with some insurance
in the 64th minute. Senior midfielder
Andy Layer scored an unassisted goal
to up the lead to 3-0.
The possibility of a shutout was for
gotten in minute 77 when Greensburg
sophomore forward Adam Zelcznick
scored an unassisted goal to put the
Panthers on the board.
Behrcnd allowed the Panthers only
3 shots the entire game, while the Li
ons managed 13 shots on the
Greensburg goalkeeper.
The game was a total team effort
by the Lions and confidence is sure
to be high coming off such a big vic
tory.
"We all showed a lot of desire and
everyone really wanted it a lot and it
showed. The bench was really sup
portive of everyone on the field,"
Nyberg stated.
Nyberg earned a spot on the
AMCC's weekly Best of the Rest list
this week for his efforts on Saturday.
"It feels good. I've been working
real hard all season and to finally get

"We played air balls well," Baker
said, and added that trying to dribble
on a field in that condition was very
difficult. Baker also credits her
defense's outstanding play in holding
the Pitt-Greensburg team scoreless.
"Conference games are the biggest
games," said Perritano, but also added
that non conference games are just as
important and help to prepare his team
for AMCC games.
The win also was a sort of sweet
revenge against a Pitt-Greensburg
team that upset the Lady Lions last
year 2- I . Baker said that the Bobcats
noticed a difference in this year's
team.
"We're more physical, our
forward's are finishing. and we're
more together. - said Baker.
The win over the Bobcats put the
Lady Lions at 3-0 in AMCC play,
where Baker says the team still has
its eye on preseason favorite
Frosthurg State.
Perritano said, "Beating Frosthurg

back positively from Wednesday's
loss. The Lady Lions will travel to
West Virginia to take on Bethany this
weekend. The Lady Bison team is
