V!4 I "It was a really rough loss, considering how close they had come to victory in pre-season," The Penn State Behrend women's volleyball team had high hopes entering the championship game of the AMCC tournament on Saturday. In their previous meeting against powerful Frostburg State, they gave the Bobcats a tough match before losing a 17-15 nail-biter. Before a sold-out Frostburg crowd, however, the rematch was a different story. Frostburg got off to a sizzling start and never let up, turning back the Lions 3-0 to capture the title. The Bobcats finished the AMCC season without a loss. Behrend opened the tournament in strong fashion against Pitt-Bradford. Showing poise and confidence, the Lions led by Friday, November 8, 2002 -head coach Kellie Diehl Danielle Bemis and Trisha Adams had no trouble. They scored a 3-0 victory, which qualified them for the championship game "It was a great way to start the tournament," said Diehl, after the Bradford game Senior Rose Boni led the team with 530 digs followed by junior Danielle Bemis who contributed 482 digs. Junior Trisha Adams ended the season with 374 kills, the highest on the team. Finishing the 2001-2002 season with a 9-5 conference record and a 16-17 non conference record, the lady lions are looking foward to next year. MEN ADVANCE The Lions (8-9-4, 5-2) have gone through many challenges this season and have strived through adversity to he at the position they remain at right now. However, on Saturday they will have their toughest and, possibly, final challenge of the season. They will play for the AMCC championship against #1 seeded Pitt-Greensburg. Greensburg has only lost one game this season and defeated the Lions in a close 4-2 game. on October sth Behrend remains confident they can still win at Greensburg, despite having all of the odds stacked against them. Senior defensman. Matt MacArthur even takes it a step further as he states. "The way we are playing within the conference. I think we are the team to beat right now. - This is due to the level the team has played in the final part of the season. They are definitely not lacking confidence, which could he very crucial in the conference championship game on Saturday if they want to come out victorious. The Lions go into the conference championship not certain of their future following the game. The Lions would he at .500 if they were to upset Greensburg. which may not be enough to receive a hid in the ECAC tournament. The team is hoping that their tough schedule will put them into the tournament. However, they are not looking past the conference championship game.
