Dr. Knacke will present a non-mathematical public lecture describing current understanding of the creation of the universe, including the latest results from astronomical obser vations. He will include discussions of current questions about the origins of stars and galaxies, and of the mysterious "dark matter" that has perplexed astronomers for several decades. Dr. Knacke is professor of physics and astronomy and the director of the School of Science at Penn State Erie. He is a NASA-funded scientist and has written extensively in the fields of planetary science, interstellar matter, and star and plant formation. The lecture is free and open to the public. Astro nomical observing will follow the lecture, weather permitting. The commencement speaker will be Dr. John Rossi, associate professor of history. The ceremony will be held at Noon in the ARC with full academic regalia.
