PAGE 4, THE BEHREND BEACON, FEBRUARY 18, 2000 SGA's on the web and digging Student Government accepting budget proposals by Tracy Jones staff writer It's already that time of the semester when budget request forms are due to the SGA. Clubs and organizations that wish to receive funding for special events and activities must submit requests for the Fall of 2000 by Friday, February 25. The budget process is set up for currently registered clubs and organizations to request funding from SGA. SGA Vice President George Leshnock encourages clubs to, "take advantage of the opportunity to get involved on campus with your club or organization." There is a detailed process clubs must go through to request this funding. Initial requests are due before 5 p.m. on Friday, February 25. The Budget Committee will call for a hearing if an application is unclear or if the committee has any questions regarding an application. If necessary, these hearings would be scheduled between March 20 and 24. Following any hearings, the budget Committee meets to make allocation recommendations, and then presents those recommendations to SGA. Those members include the SGA Budget Committee chair, the SGA president and treasurer, and student appointees. Also, several administrative staff members and one faculty member advise the committee and act as non-voting members. Money that clubs and organisation; request is to be used for financing programs and activities of a recreational, cultural, educational and service nature. These programs and activities are to he designed primarily to benefit current Penn State Behrend students. There is a list of seven items that cannot he funded according to University Policy, including the lii P7'l [CI I U ii purchase of or reimbursement for alcohol and for the hiring of legal services or appropriations for the personal gain 01 any student, faculty member, staff member or citizen. T‘‘elve items arc listed as things not normally funded according to the restrictions set by SGA. Included are clothing, uniforms or similar personal items, money for programs at campuses other than Penn State Behrend, donations, and charitable contributions. NEWS SGA on the Web The Student Government Associa tion at Penn State Behrend is now online. SGA recently got its website up and running. The site is located at www.clubs.psu.edu/BehrendSGA. Posted on the new page are minutes from SGA meetings, updates of what's going on in SGA, and photos and email addresses of council mem bers, senators, and officers. There are also links to respective committee pages. The SGA Constitution is also posted, including up-to-date amend ments and corrections. "We're hoping that the new SGA website will improve communication between the SGA and the student body. This will allow us to let the stu dents know what SGA is doing for them and to get feedback from them regarding how we can improve our service to them," said Demian Blair. Blair is a senator and a website com mittee member. FILE PHOTO A goal for the near future is to add pages for separate issues, such as cur rent events and hot topics. Blair said that the committee will also be work ing on posting a calendar of events and activities for each club and orga nization at Behrend. There are currently two Behrend student webmasters working on the web page for about 15 hours a week. The Student Life Committee will then decide which ideas and problems are most important to act upon. Some ideas that SGA is currently working on are improvements in the Back Room, getting a traffic light at Station Road, and canceling the fee for the MAC machine. The problem that SGA currently is working on is the air conditioning issue in the Turnbull Building. The importance of each idea or roblem is measured by how many SGA Senator Melody Sherosky talks to students at the SGA Forum this past Tuesday. 1i3a:101pol7 iYjaliY students the idea or problem affects. SGA was pleased with the turnout for the two forums. Melody Sherosky, the Public Relations co-chair, stated, "turnout can always be better at Behrend events, but we were happy with the group of people we got. We got some wonderful ideas from everyone who stopped by. One big concern was a MAC machine on campus with no fee. We'll definitely he working on that one." Anyone with an idea or problem concerning Penn State Behrend is encouraged to visit the SGA Office in the Reed Union Building.
