Rossi said that "using people from different disciplines" will give the course "diversity" and an "'other cultures' component" The professors who will be team-teaching INTST 100 in the spring of 1995 are Rossi, who will provide the historical perspective; Dr. Gayle Morris, lecturer in economics; and Dr. Zachary Irwin, associate professor of political science. INTST 400, "Seminar in International Studies," will be a lecture and discussion course in which students complete a research project according to the Nov. 12, 1993 Division of Humanities and Social Sciences proposal for the international studies minor. Rossi said that students will "apply what (they've) learned in (their) mtgor(s) and other courses" to the research prpject According to Rossi and Salper, it is not known whether INTST 400 will be offered in the fall of 1995 or the spring of 1996 because, as Rossi said, "the sequence (of classes) depends on how many students sign up for the minor." Rossi said of the minor, "It's pretty exciting what we're doing; it's innovative at the university level." Salper agreed with Rossi and said, "We're very excited." She added, "The Office of International Programs at University Park has been very generous in support” Faculty members serving on the committee for the international studies minor include: Dr. Ursula Davis, Dr. Steve de Hart, Dr. Juan Femandez-Jimenez, Dr. John Gamble, Dr. Zachary Irwin, Dr. Ken Louie, Dr. Gayle Morris, Rossi, Salper, and Dr. Kathryn Wolfe. David Shields, former director of Student Activities, has taken a position at Altoona, another Penn State branch campus. Shields’ position in Altoona is Director of Student Affairs, much like the position Chris Reber holds here at Behrend. Chris Rizzo will be taking over for Shields as Director of Student Activities. Rizzo’s former position was Coordinator of Resident and Greek Life. Shields was at Behrend since 1988. “The biggest thing I will miss most about Behrend is watching the freshmen become seniors,” said Shields. “Behrend was like an extended family and a special place.” “I will also miss working with the students, especially in their leadership roles," Shields said. "This was definitely the "ERIES HOTTEST PHTECLUB" WEDS NITE Thursday, Sepi&tM 15,1994 best six years in one place.” Rizzo is excited about his new position. “I always have been in contact with Student Activities, but I want to continue with the vision of this program.” Rizzo has also made some long-range plans. “I would like to be working with leadership development in the Greek system in the near future.” “In my old position I worked more with disciplinary situations and in the residence halls," Rizzo said, "so I will still be in contact with the students, just in a different way." Rizzo also mentioned that the Behrend community will miss Shields. “In the last week I have worked very dose with Dave for my orientation, and wished that I would have worked with him in the past mote than I did.” NON _ ALCOHOLIC V
