The value of massi.singing lies not only in the pleasure it affords the listeners, but als:' in the feeling of comradeship and good will it produces upon the singers. It is entirely fitting, there fore, that a group of men who are about to sever a four year relation ship with each other and their Alma Mater should meet together for the purpose of ' making more close and more lasting the pleasant memories they have gained. Let us hope that future Senior Classes will con tinue a custom so full of pleasure and v..lues, until they have moulded it into a cherished tradition. Candidates , To complete the full for the Staff working staff for next year, two'men are to be chosen from the class of 1914. The positions will be filled, as usual, after a trial of the merits of the candidates; and all interested Freshmen should send in their uames to the editor at once. The Flower Show. The first annual flower show, un der the auspices of the Department of Horticulture and the Penn State Crab Apple Club, Was held at the new greenhouse last Saturday, April 29. The collection of the De partment of Horticulture was aug mented by the exhibits of well knovm florists of the state, who were asked to assist in this new movement in horiculture at Penn State. Although the number who responded was not large, those who contributed, did so in a most gen erous manner. A constant stream of appreciative visitors crowded the greenhouses, at all hours, to enjoy the collection of superb flowers, and the many words of praise given clearly showed that ,this undertak ing was worth while. The display consisted of the dif ferent varieties of roses, carnations, hyacinths, sweet-peas, pansies and several other potted specomens. The rose collection included the American Beauty, RiLhmond, My Maryland, Bride, Bridesmaid, Gold en Gate, both White and Pink Kil larney, Hilda and Ivory varieties. The carnations represented were the Samson Lady Bountiful, White and Brisk Enchantfess, Beacon, White Perfection, Winona, Victoiy, , and Winson varieties. All of the contributing florists deserve much , praise and not enough thanks can be extended them by both the department of Horticul ture and those who witnessed the show for their invaluable assistance. An idea of the quality of the flow ers show can, well be forniecl when it is known that among the con tributing florists were the Pittsburg Cut Flower company they hav'ng the largest display there: Myers and Sampson Of Chestnut' Hill, Pa., who are the winners of first prizes at both state and national shows; and the Oakwood, Rose Gardens of Pit City, Pa. The show was 'a decided success from every standpoint and the men who directly managed it are to 'be congratulated. However, this ex hibition has a deeper significance than that Conveyed by a mere dis play of flowers, for this is the best way to promote and to encourage the interests of the commercial florists throughout the state and it is one of the many rapid strides in floriculture taken by Penn State within the past year. Penn State is now one of the few of the State colleges which realizes that the ad vancement of the State florist's interests is one means of sk curing state aid. As the flower show is to be an annual affair, we can look forward, with pleasure, to more and bigger eXhibitior,s and to the furth er advancement of our horticultural department. Penn State had little trouble in defeating Dickinson in its first in tercollegiate tennis' match. The team getting the best out of three sets was considered the winner. Lloyd who won the championship of the college last year, and who is the amatuer champion of Westein Pennsylvania, displayed his usual good form. The Blue and White players as a team and individually played well and kept a clean slate against Dickinson by winni ig every match. A fair crowd turned out to see the contest, the gate receipts being sufficient to over balance the expenses. The scores•— Singles: Lloyd, State, won from Boell, Dickinson, 6-2, 8-6.
