Soon after his return home he visited the Governor at Harrisburg to confer with him re garding the Adam's Bill, recently passed in Congress. This trip was probably a bad thing for his weax state, for a few days after his return he took to his bed. At the present writing he is much better, and the doctors feel considerably relieved. Not once during the present season have State's men complained about "a bum umpire," but Mr. Beecher, who handled the indicator in the recent Yale game. was so palpably incompetent, that his decisions spoiled that otherwise good game. A week pi evious to the State game this same official umpired the Yale— Holy Cross game, which almost ended in a riot, because of his raw decisions, so that the Yale manager should have certainly looked after a new man for the State contest. It will be remembered that last fall in football all the Eastein papers were strong in their denunciation of the poor work of the referee in the State—Yale game. It appears that "Old Eli" should "wake-up," and get competent, impartial officials ap pointed to take charge of her home games, as is the practice at Pfince ton, Cornell etc. However, as legal ds this game, State's player cannot blame their defeat entirely upon the poor umpiring, since slow fielding was the main factor in Yale's victor y. Dur ing preliminary practice, short stop Cree sprained his arm, and could scarcely throw across the diamond. This mishap resulted in several of State's errors, which, coupled with some ragged slow fielding, allowed Continued on 15,rge 4 Price Five Cents Commencement Week Program SUNDAY, JUNE 10 10 30 a m. - Baccalaureate Seimon, by the Rev.
