lege of the same nature as our own, has been supporting a series of lectures on political and social science qUestions. DURING the last year there has been some thought given to the establishing of an Engineering periodical in connec tion with that work. As no definite action has been taken, it looks as though the plan will not be materialized. The utility of such a paper cannot be questioned. Possessing, as we do, such a strong and well equipped engineering de partment and a large majority of our students pursuing courses of that nature, there certainly is material enough in the line of news and technical articles to produce some desirable literature, representing that side of our institution. It is true that mere theorizing is quite easy when com pared to the practical application of the same, and whether such a periodical could be successfully published is a ques tion that remains to be answered. If such 'a plan is not feasible at present, would not the columns of the FREE LANCE be the proper place to set engineering news before our men? If such a plan appeals to any of the men connect ed with the several departments concerned, the LANCE is at their service. If a page of news or a brief article of some kind from each division could be regularly submitted and a permanent column maintained in our magazine, we believe a valuable addition would be made to our monthly and a welcome amount of news for every one. Such reports Would be a sure means of keeping the alumni in touch with the working of their respective departments. Most all of the other schools doing the same kind of work as we, issue a weekly paper, and the ones coming to our table contain a large amount of engineering news. An attempt has been made to institute such a department in our last issue—quite stnall it may seettri—but if the proper amount 'of interest is manifested hereafter, our aim has been realized.
