    In the Freelance for January, 1888, was published the
>wing Slogan, which is probably the first song that was
written especially for the Pennsylvania State College.
State ! State J State ! Boom ! 1
State I State 1 State ! Boom I !
Now thunders all the air with sound :
The valleys sing-,
The mountains ring,
And STATS comes back from sky and ground.
To all the world
Our challenge hurled,
What men we are our deeds shall prove;
With hand and heart
We’ll do our part
To make this old world onward move.
The earth shall yield
From mine and field
’Til commerce groans beneath the load,
And every force
Becomes the source
Of pow’r and good on man bestowed.
With heart and mind
For humankind,
We’ll sail right true the ship of state ;
With fire of youth
And leal to truth
We’ll make the false, bent ways be
The contest done,
The vict’ry won,
Together sound our slogan loud,
There’s not a deed
For which we need
Be otherwise than justly proud.
Our time for sport
We know is short;
Life’s sterner days before 11s loom :
So now then, boys,
Just make a noise—
1 State 1 State 1 Boom I! State I State 1 State I Boom ! 1
