Gehringer is a native Pennsylvanian who hails from Allen- town. He has attended Mullenburg College, George Washington Univer 8ity, and Temple University and plans to receive his Ph.D. in PSy— chology sometime in June. The position which he now holds at Penn State is his first full-time teaching job. When we asked about the effects of pot we were told that it sometimes gives a hallucinaginic experience. Although Mr. Gehringe: feels that in many cases it has a pleasant effect, he can not com=_ Pletely condone the use of pot since so little is known about it. kven though marijuana is not the answer to escaping reality, Mr. Gehringer stated that many people use it for that explicit pur- pose. Because it is readily available, he feels that smoking pot is much more rampant than one can imagine, The hippies and their constant use of drugs, according to Mr, Gehringer, do not influence a great number of people to use drugs. In his eyes, if is the young, middle class adults, who are not usual ly swayed by the latest fads, who use marijuana the most. To the young adults, pot is just their "bag." In conclusion, Mr. Gehringer said that more research should be done in the uses and effects of marijuana.
