He feels that due to our limited facilities it will be difficult to establish an inspiring social progrem, and his goal is to try and overcome this obstacle. A lot of the success depends on student support of the affairs that hehas in mind. James plans to give another jammy to see if the class is real: behind him. A Christmas party will be sponsored by Penn State for the children in the Chester area, which will be held around Decem- ber 1. He also plans a Christmas Ball with Ogontz at the Chester High Gym for Penn State students and their guests. There will be a band and the attire will be semi-formal. No date has been set as of now but it will be in December. James' assistants are: Eric McVeigh, Reggie Middleton, Karen Holst and Nelson Cox. James says school spirit and support are the most important factor. If the student body has any suggestions about these or other social activites please contact James or any other member of the social committee, THE WAR AT THE BULLETIN BOARD by Camille Brewer [1] The anti-war demonstrations in Washington on Cotober twenty- first triggered an outburst of verbal student protest against "hippies, straigts, squares and heads." This verbal warare raged for a week and the student bulletin board became more and more cluttered everyday by student denouncements and subsequent retort, "Hate HippieWeek" was officially iniatied by Vince Simone anc Harry Triolo by the posting of their emotional piem, "A Hippie." The poem contained such lines as: "A Hippie is a big dirtball he doesn't take a bath at all... "If you punch a hippie, he will fall 'cause he has no guts at all. The poem ends with an invitation to "Hit a Hippie and make him dippy." Retort was soon on its way in a short defence of non-confor- mity by John Hoagland. A second retort was posted by Don Nocito in another poem. He questioned the view in "A Hippie" by saying: "to voice your opinion as you do without though! ...you lack consideration for what others have taught." 5
