ARTS FESTIVAL OPENS NOVEMBER 13 The 1966 Edinboro State College Fine Arts Festival will open on Sun day, November 13 at 2 o'clock in Memorial Auditorium. The events that will follow during the next five days will present to the public a varied program of the arts, ranging from photography to theatre, and in cluding graphic art, music, poetry, and cinema. The opening event of the First Fine Arts Festival will be a concert by the famed jazz pianist, Thelonius Monk. Monday's event, at 8:15 in the auditorium is "Coffee House" inspired, the entertainer being Ce dric Smith from the Black Swan Cof fee House of Stratford, Canada. At 2 o'clock in Memorial Auditorium, Donald Hall, a famous contemporary poet, will speak on "The New Poetry." In the Erie Civic Theatre at 8:15 p.m. the world premiere of Tennessee Williams' American Blues will be sented. Alfred Kern, a contemporary nov elist of note, will conduct an inter esting and informative lecture and discussion on the subject of contem porary literature on Wednesday at 2:00 - p.m. in Memorial Auditorium. Thursday, 2:00 p.m. Seonain Robert son of the University of London will lecture on current trends in art and at 8:15 the Edinboro State College Collegiate Singers will present a special concert. Friday, Brett Ruth erford will present a World Premiers concert of his newly written works for piano. The Festival will close Friday evening in Memorial Auditor ium with the showing of.the 1961 Swedish cinematic masterpiece, Mein Kampf. 37- During this y we x k, November er7auyitoe anhaieplayitnbyhAla n in the lobby of Ross Dining Hall. The 1966 Edinboro State Col lege Fine Arts Festival offers many opportunities for both stu dents and residents of surrounding areas to enhance their cultural knowledge, as well as being thor oughly entertained by the many fine events. The Arts Festival is an activity that occurs but once a year, and it is a rare opportun ity for individuals to participate in a nearly complete synthesis of the fine arts. v. The public is welcome to attend all events but must obtain tickets in advance at the Auditor ium Office for the Thelonius Monk performance. THAT'S RESOURCEFUL Remember the terrible rain * we had on All-University Day? And then the rain had to follow us home and turn Behrend into a pool of water. One unfortunate freshmen, after wading in the rain was faced with the aggrava tion of not being able to close his umbrella. He fought with the thing for a while, became quite irate, and took the umbrella apart. Behrend now has a good start on a television antenna (all we need is a television) and our student can be seen walking in the rain wearing a black poncho (that for some reason looks like it came from an umbrella). by Lorie Balog ITM:9
