In a move to clean up their notoriously poor image, the Senate voted
94-6 to enforce an Ethics Committee subpoena of Sen. Bob
Packwood's (Republican from Oregon) diaries. The vote ended two
days of senate debate over whether or not his entire 8,400 page diary
could be reviewed to answer allegations of sexual assault and other
possible wrongdoings including having lobbyists hire his wife.
Packwood has insisted that he should only have to submit the parts of
his diaries that are relevant to the issues at hand. He objects to the
Ethics Committee being able to go through the rest of his diaries to
find other charges.
The senate decision now raises some interesting questions. First, is it
invasion of privacy to go through Packwood's diaries? Also, could a
diary entry be considered self-incrimination?
The most important result of the decision is that the Senate has shown
that it is serious about cleaning up its act. They will not allow
individuals to ruin their image any longer. While former Democratic
Majority Leader Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia may have been
wrong in asking Packwood to resign, he was correct in saying that it
would only bring further dishonor to the Senate if they did not back up
the Ethics Committee.
The Senate has started to clean house. It's about time!
Letters to the editor
The Office of Student
Activities is primarily
responsible for the programming
that has taken place in Bruno’s
this semester. We are currently
considering several
programmatic changes to the
schedule, but first we need
YOUR input to know what to
bring to campus!
At the present time, I am
trying to organize a “Bruno’s
Programming Committee”
which would be responsible for
coordinating all aspects of the
weekly entertainment.
Specifically the committee
would be selecting
entertainment, negotiating
contracts, hosting entertainers,
managing the budget allocated to

Mr. Adams,
We are responding to the letter
to the editor by Devon C.
Adams. We believe in almost
everything that Rossomando
wrote in the article, but we do
have similar beliefs on
homosexuality.
Does this mean that
homosexuals are any less of a
person than anyone else? No!
We are just expressing the
disapproval of their practices.
Practices that were frowned upon
by our forefathers!!
We do not agree with signs
and awareness of homosexuality
on campus. It seems that there
are more signs of Trigon than
any other organization. We
believe in the conservative point
of view.

The Conservative Democratic
League, PPL, formed to
represent amscmltivevfews on
campus. Homosexuality is not
a conservative view; therefore,
we do not approve of it. We
wish to hear no more personal
attacks on John.
This article is solely written
to express what our friend John
has written. Again, we do not
believe everything that John has
written, but we are merely
showing that we have many
common beliefs.
