The Lady Lions' basketball
team has a new head coach this
season, Rosalyn Fomari.
Coach Fornari came to Behrend
after spending two years as an
assistant coach at Alfred
University, a Division HI school.
She spent time as an
undergraduate coach at Hofstra
University, a Division I school.
Coach Fornari played high
school basketball for Jefferson
High School and was a member
of the varsity team for four years.
Coach Fornari teaches esact
health educaton at Behrend. She
saw the potential of the Behrend
Lady Lions when they played
Alfred University and this led to
her decision to come here.
She also has the opportunity to
have her own program here at
Behrend. Coach Fornari feels
coaching is very challenging and
she finds that the environment
here at Behrend makes her feel at
home.
Fornari's favorite television
show is "Seinfeld". Her hobbies
include: hanging out with her
friends, watching the Georgetown
Hoyas play, and different outdoor
sports.

Her favorite sports quotes are
"go hard or go home," which is
displayed on the team's practice
shirts, and "A goal is a dream
with a deadline."
There are seven seniors on this
year's team. According to
Fornari, "The seniors have been a
lot of help to me and it will be
hard to fill their shoes next year."
Coach Fornari is very excited
and anxious for the upcoming
wagon. Her volunteer assistant is
Rob Whitman, her undergraduate
assistant is Tracy Thompson, and
she is still looking for a paid
assistant coach.
Coach Fornari expects the
players to be excited for change.
The team has the potential to
become great and they need
someone to show them
something different.
Fornari plans to change one
specific thing about the team,
"They will learn it is all the little
things that will lead you to the
big goal."
The coach's expectations for
the season include to develop
team skills and team oriented
tasks, and for the seniors to go
out feeling successful. She wants
this season to be a positive
experience for everyone.

The Behrend Men's soccer team
boasts many new faces on their
1993 roster including first year
coach Dan Perritano.
Despite the apparent lack of
experience, the squad is high in
enthusiasm with good reason.
Coach Perritano is a proven
winner.
While with Monroe
Community College near
Rochester, NY, he was part of
two national championships.
Along with this valuable
experience he has also managed
to mesh well with his new
players, leading to a positive
attitude throughout the team.
The booters showed their zeal
in the season opener against
Laßoche College, blanking their
opponents by a score of 2-0.
Coupling a sterling defensive
performance with goals by Andy
Lafferty and Pat Millard, the
Lions thoroughly dominated the
game. The score did not reflect
the explosiveness of the offense
as they put 32 shots on goal,
while Behrend goalie Dave Stohr
managed to keep the back of the
net clean in the shutout.

The Lions were not able to
maintain their winning ways in
their next three matches,
however
Against Fredonia, they were
turned away 4-1 with Lafferty
posting the lone goal in the loss.
The team traveled to SUNY
Brockport next for tournament
play.
They were flat in a 4-1 loss to
Nazareth College with Lafferty
once again knocking in the only
goal. They rounded out the
tournament with a 2-0 defeat at
the hands of St. John Fisher.
Although they have suffered
three straight setbacks, optimism
remains high among the players.
Junior sweeper Brian Hurley
commented, "Even though we're
young and relatively
inexperienced, we have a lot of
enthusiasm and talent. On top of
that, we have a great coach who
definitely knows how to win."
The Lions hope to build on
these traits and get back into the
win column soon.

With a new semester, comes
new faces and also the lack of
some very familiar ones. Over
the summer, three head coaches
and one assistant left Behrend
for various reasons. Below are
some of their accomplishments
and where they are now.
Jenepher Banker: The
all-time winningest coach in
Behrend women's basketball
history with 67 wins is now a
first assistant at Division I
Canisius in Buffalo. In her
five years here at Behrend,
Banker took the Lady Lions to
the ECAC playoffs, winning
the South Region in 1991-92.
Fred Paulsen: Paulsen
was 39-39 in his three years at
Behrend as head basketball
coach. He led the Lions to
their second ECAC appearance
in 1991-92. He returned to
coach at Huron, South Dakota
where he had coached before.
His former assistant, Chris
Viscuso, is now an assistant at
Brescia College in Owensboro,
Kentucky.

Dennis Grace: Grace
served as both head soccer
coach and head baseball coach
in his two years at Behrend.
He posted a 7-35 record in
baseball and an 8-23-1 mark in
soccer. Grace is now pursuing
his Ph.D. at Indiana
University.
Lady Lions. November 1, is the
first official practice. And
November 19 and 20 is the Tip-
Off Tournament for the Lady
Lions.
Coach Fornari wants the
students of Behrend to know "this
team has the potential to be a top
caliber team and go into post
season play. The enthusiasm of
the community here can make the
team go farther."
She feels the team has had
excellent support in the past from
students, faculty, and staff and
she hopes it will continue this
year.
