Page 10 Summer Movie Wrap-Up "Jurassic Park"-- Oh, what a strange place by Laura Borawski Collegian Staff Once upon a time, in a land pretty damn far away, there lived a cluster of dinosaurs. Some were ravenous carnivores, while others were more easy-going and munched on leaves. Whatever the case may be, each creature took part in the process of life's food chain--eat or be eaten... Now allow yourself to note that despite the realistic qualities of this prehistoric scene, there sits in some elaborate scientific control room a strange scientist who personally invented as result of a childhood fantasy, every single creature found in this strange land. Alright, enough picture painting! I'd like to file a complaint. I had a difficult time assessing the fact that McDonald's made up a "meal deal" with the Jurassic Park name slapped on it to rake in some cash. I just think that any kid of considerably young age would beg mommy to go see the movie and then hit Mickey D's for some food. After viewing Jurassic Park, I personally felt uncomfortable with the thought of children watching a man sitting on a commode while hiding from a beastly dinosaur Jackson in "Justice" by Tom Keefe Collegian Staff Poetic Justice was one of the summer's hottest hits. The movie depicts the hardships of an ' inner city African-American woman, Justice (Janet Jackson). Justice works as a hair dresser at "Jessie's Salon de Beaute," one of the best salons in Los Angeles. She is faced with the horror of witnessing her lover's murder and suffers from her mother's alcoholism and suicide. Justice separates herself from everyone and her only outlet is poetry. She meets up with Lucky (Tupac Shakur), a postal carrier. He is forced to raise his daughter alone because her mother is on crack. Instead of poetry, Lucky expresses himself through rap music. Although the pair doesn't get along at first, they eventually become very good friends and lovers. The two face many problems together and fight for the survival of their relationship. Although the movie focuses on Justice and Lucky, it also branches out to show the Who's the best, the worst, and who fell in between and being eaten alive by predator, and then going to eat at McDonald's. Sorry, if you disagree, it's just my opinion, okay? For the record, a friend pointed out to me that the quantity of the food found in the Jurassic meal deal was designed for an older crowd. You may find this irrelevant to my article, but too many of us overlook the so-called "insignificant" facts that could possibly have a significant result in the end. SO, think of me when you observe something insignificantly significant... The movie Jurassic Park brings to life the prehistoric life that for many of us would be difficult to paint in our minds. It puts the audience on the edge of their seats. Steven Spielberg once again proved to me that the world of cinema is a wonderful place to be. Assuming that many of you have seen this summer hit, it would be a waste to explicitly delve into a detailed description of the film. However, if you're sitting at home with nothing to do except homework, don't hesitate to visit you local video store and rent it when it comes out on video. It is rated PG-13, and it will surely make you wonder about the age of the dinosaur. problems of Jessie (Tyra Ferrel), the owner of the salon, Lesha (Regina King), Justice's best friend, and Chicago (Joe Torry), Lesha's boyfriend. Each of these characters face distinctive problems all caused by life in the inner-city. The movie was written and directed by John Singleton, who also wrote and directed Boyz N The flood. Singleton said, "...it was time for a woman's story to be told." The movie is incredibly real showing just how hard life in the 'hood' can be. The movie incorporates the music of A Tribe Called Quest, Tony! Toni! Tone!, Naughty by Nature, and Janet Jackson. It also includes poetry by the distinguished poet Maya Angelou. Poetic Justice is very entertaining, but also made me think about some big problems in our society. If I didn't learn anything else from the film, I did learn, "Nobody, but nobody can make it out here alone." by Jen Toubakaris Collegian Staff Are you tired of all those cheesy love stories where boy meets girl, boy chases girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl to rich yuppie jerk named Biff, and the boy fmally gets girl again? If you said yes, then you must see Sleepless in Seattle, starring by Portia Kelly Collegian Staff When you think about action movies, the first thing you expect is mayhem, chaos and death. Well, that's really what this movie is all about, except you get to see Jean Claude Van Damme. But seriously, this motion picture is full of thrills and chills from the beginning to the end. The initial plot of the story is about a manhunt which is initiated by several men who yearn for the thrill to chase an unarmed man through the city of Sleepless in Seattle: "Hard Target": Damme hits the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It's Ryan's quirky, almost crazy not your usual love story because behavior, mix for a delicious the couple doesn't get together couple. You leave the theater until the end of the movie. I saying that they were made for admit, I was a little frustiated each other, and they are. because they kept missing each Romance, humor, and other, but it makes you sentiment; this movie has it all. appreciate the way they fall in You'll leave the theater feeling love. like a kid, and you might just Tom Hanks' display of his come to believe in true love. usual sarcastic humor and Meg New Orleans and kill him before he reaches a certain point. BORING!!!! This is a predictable and foolish plot, yet the action scenes are unimaginable and ripping. Van Damme is the hero, of course, who tries to help the "damsel in distress," star Vancy Butler. Her character lacks feeling and expression, but there's an E for effort in her performance. Van Damme uses his keen sense of survival to save her and his uncle, played by Wilfred Brimley. Brimley is incredibly funny in the role, and gives a surprising Thursday, September 16, 1993 True love? Van mark twist to the story line. But, you can't leave out the main character whose performance is gratifying and satisfying. (And I'm not just saying that because Van Damme is one of the sexiest men in Hollywood.) He really does a good job trying to keep the excitement rolling. His character could have a more grasping outlook on life and more emotion. So ladies, if you like Van Damme, and gentlemen, if you like action, go see this movie. If you want a movie that is full of intellectual stimulation, then you won't find it here. ENJOY!!
