The walk will benefit the Erie Unit of the American Cancer Society. The students aim to raise $3OOO. all to be spent locally on patient services, including transportation to treatment centers, equipment loans, and financial assistance for medications. "Walk to Pittsburgh" will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, April 23 with a ceremony hosted by Provost and Dean Dr. John M. Lilley on the first floor of the Reed Building. Guest speakers include American Cancer Society representatives and Zeta Beta Tau President Jody Wingard. Zeta Beta Tau members and alumni will walk west along East 38th Street, and south along Route 19 to Pittsburgh. Walkers will rotate at 16 mile intervals over the three day trip to allow adequate rest. According to Vice President D.J. They will be returning to Erie April - 25, and there will be t vehicles with each walki group. The walk is scheduled to end at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, 25, at Three Rivers Stadium. Later that afternoon they will be recognized for their efforts during the Pittsburgh Pirates-Houston Astros baseball game. The game is complimentary of the Pirates. "It's a worthwhile endeavor to raise money for the American Cancer Association," said Wolbert. I'm looking forward to it very much. It's a good time getting together and trying to make the most of it." Major sponsors include the Pittsburgh Pirates, Silk Screening Enterprises, Lawrence Park Dairy Queen, the Elephant Bar, Jimmy Z's, Marlin's, and The Earth Day 1993 celebration, sponsored by Campus Ministry Council and the Transplant Recipient International Organization (TRIO), is being held today, April 22. Events open with a ceremony in the Wintergarden entitled "Encircled by Creation", focusing on Native American culture and spirituality.
