by Hal Coffey
Collegian Staff
Like the Atlanta Brave's
pitching staff, Penn State-
Behrend men's tennis has some
aces of their own. Two of these
trump cards are Eric Good and
Jonathan Chase.

This # I doubles duo has
smoked their competition so far
this year and there is no reason to
believe they cannot continue their
dominating play. For these
reasons as well as their academic
excellence, Good and Chase are
Co-Athletes of the Week.
Good, a proud Punxsatawny
High alum, is a math major who
attacks his classes with the same
vigor he uses to attack the net
during a big match, which makes
him an ideal candidate for Behrend
Male Student/Athlete of the Year.
Good believes that he has
learned to better budget his time
thanks to tennis. He must be
able to find time to study in
between . tennis and other
activities. Good's standing on
the Dean's list is proof that he
budgets his time well.
Don't get the impression that
Good is a bookworm, he saves
plenty of time for social
activities and tennis. Last year,
he helped to lead the team to 8
wins as the # 1 singles and
doubles player.

He has continued this success
in 1993 by becoming team
captain. Good has been great,
going 8 - 2 in singles.
He believes that the best is yet
to come from the men's tennis
team. "We're probably a top 100
Division 111 team this year and
we should move to top 20 in the
next 2 years," Good said.
As far as his personal future,
Good would like to go to
graduate school for his doctorate
or a master's degree. Through his
mathematical background, he
hopes to work as a statistician or
in another math based field for a
company.
Through his 3 seasons at
Behrend, Good has progressively
gotten better while watching new
stars step in where a void will be
when he graduates.
Another opening will appear in
the roster when Jonathan Chase
graduates with Good. Chase, a
Fairview graduate, transferred
from Kent State to Behrend two
years ago and immediately
stepped into a ma'or role at # 2

singles
Chase, an accounting major,
has played at # 2 singles and # 1
doubles with Good. He is tied
for the team lead in singles wins
(9-1) as well as doubles victories
(7-1). These marks are not really
a surprise, but Chase still
believes he has room to improve.
His future includes becoming
an accountant or insurance agent
and possibly moving to the Land
Down Under, Australia.
Chase enjoys the fact that this
year's team has 12 active
members. He sees a large team
as a way to give everyone a
chance to play and develop their
ability.
Coach Dan Gallegos speaks
only high praise of these two
young men as those who "lead by
deed, not by word alone."
Good and Chase said that the
Athlete of the Week award is not
just for them, but a testament to
the team as a whole.
Although a tough road lies
ahead, the dynamic duo of Good
and Chase should be ready for any
challenge.
