Page 6 Sweet Daddy's World by Danette Parrett Fader= Editor Watch out Oprah. Move over Donahue. Get out of the way Sally. Why are these talk show hosts running for their jobs? Sweet Daddy's World is making a move in their direction. Sweet Daddy's World is Behrend's first and only talk show. It was developed and is now directed by Jamele Adams, a fourth semester student and president of Association of Black Collegians. Adams decided to begin the show because he was "tired of "The most beneficial show thus far was on interracial relationships because I feel some students really opened their mouths and educated one another and that's all I ask f0r..." faculty and staff always doing the programming at Behrend." Adams feels that Sweet Daddy's world was long awaited. The show is an opportunity for students' voices to be heard, especially the black students of Behrend. The show covers a various array of topics. So far, Adams has had shows on sex, women, an'd interracial relationships. In the future there will be programs on racism, gay and lesbian issues, affirmative action, the faculty at Behrend, Police and Safety, and many other issues that Adams feels remain "in the closet." By adding a touch of comedy, Adams tries not to focus entirely on the serious side of the issues. An example of Sweet Daddy's with a twist of comedy will be its upcoming talent display and comedy night. Curtis Charles, a fifth semester marketing/international business major, said about Sweet Daddy's World, "I firmly believe that Sweet Daddy's world is not only comical, but very educational as well. In addition, it not only helps the white students to learn more about the African A talk show with a twist Americans, but it helps [African- Americans] to learn as well. Adams reports that student response to his program has been "FATT." He feels the support will continue to rise. Adams finds the Association of Black Collegians (ABC) a backbone for support. Adams wishes that more white students would attend the show because he feels the issues that are discussed are issues that all students need to learn about, as well as voice their opinions on. Adams describes his topics as ones that we all "bitch or converse about at one time or another." Adams notes that the university is supposed to discuss his show, but he would rather not have the university taking full Features responsibility for the show becoming involved then I have a whole new set of rules to follow." Adams likes the way that Sweet Daddy's is currentlt executed. "The students run the show. I'll accept credit when it's due, but I'd rather hear it from 'my peoples; the guests." Adams doesn't have a great deal of plans for extending Sweet Daddy's World outside of Behrend's campus. "I would like for [Sweet Daddy's] to be broadcast on WPSE, but then I would have university rules that would govern how the show would be run. I don't plan on traveling to other campuses because I'd like to see Behrend on the map. So, I'll invite other colleges to visit Behreoi" File Photo *********** episodes contimie. v The next "The most bene fi cial show thus, 1 1, episode of far was on interracial* relationships. I gladly discussed any objections anyone had with my relationship." Bruguera felt the show she participated in was a success. "I think a lot of people walked out of the program more aware of the fact that if two people are together and happy, no one else has the right to judge them just because of their skin color." The Student Government Association sponsored the second show that Adams conducted. In the future Adams hopes other organizations on campus will "The students run the show. He plans on going "to Dusquesne University for Law and becoming a successful black lawyer, marry my honey, Amicia, and help out my posse from my neighborhood, as well as build [it] up."
