Attention Graduating Seniors: Caps and
gowns for the January commencement can now be
pickcd up in the Bookstore. Graduation tickets are
available in the Registrar's Office until 5:00 p.m.
today.
Career Night: Lambda Pi Eta is sponsoring a
career night in the Glenhill Farmhouse Memorial
Room at 7:30 p.m. on December 3. Guest speakers
will talk and answer questions about their jobs in the
communications field.
Hanging of the Greens: Friday, December 4
join the 44th annual 'Hanging of the Greens' at 7:00
p.m. in the Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. The Blue
Bus will depart at 6:30 from the Reed Parking Lot to
the cemetery.
Holy Day of Obligation__ Mass: Tuesday,
December 8, a mass celebrating the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception will be held at 5:00 p.m. in
the Reed Lecture Hall. All students., faculty, and
staff are welcome.
Peace Tree Celebration: Join The Lion
Ambassadors in a plea for peace by tying a ribbon on
The Peace Tree. The event will take place on
Wednesday, December 9, from 11:00 a.m. tintil 1:00
p.m. in the mailroom lobby.
"Begendings" Advent Service: On December
9, at 8:30 p.m. in the Reed Lecture Hall, Campus
Ministry will sponsor their annual "Begendings"
Advent Light Service. The Penn State-Sehrend
Brass 'Quintet -will be playing before and during the
Service. •
Day Care Center Collection: ODK is
sponsoring it collection for the Behrend Day Care
Center. Clean out your closets over Winter break
and bring toys and books to The Office of Student
Affairs. Items should be in good condition' and
appropriate for children between the ages of 6
months to 6 years old.
Campus Ministry Board: The last board meeting
of this semester is Thursday, December 3 at 3:45
p.m. in the Reed Conference Room.
Coffee with the Provost: The, last Coffee with
the Provost for the fall semester will be held
Monday, December 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the Reed
Conference Room.
Diehl Label Collection Boxes: Collection
boxes have been set up to gather Loblaws, Giant
Eagle and Campbells product labels to benefit the
Adopt-A-School program. Boxes are located in the
student apartment laundry rooms (buildings 3&8),
Reed Building, Finance Office, and the Science
'Division Office.
Free Tutoring Available: All Behrend Students
are welcome to utilize the Learning Assistance
Center's services. Student and faculty tutors are OA
duty daily offering help with many subjects. For
more information call 898-6014 or drop by the
Centerlocated in the South Cottage.

Remember, all sponsor sheets and donations are due

Ruth Pfluegar, a fifth
semester student and secretary
to Provost and Dean Dr. John
I.illey, recently walked away
with the S2OO Annual Thesis
Research Prize in Arts and
Letters. The award, presented
by Phi Beta Kappa, a National
Honor Society, is given out
yearly and is open to scholars
university wide.
Pfluegar's senior thesis is
built on a narrative structure and
framed in a historical context.
Based on many extensive notes
from the 1920's (taken from
just about every walk of life),
the thesis is a recreation of the
1921 silent film, The Sheik,
starring Rudolph Valentino.
Pfldegar uses dialogue cards,
or "titles," as epigrams and each
poem includes a description of

Sheik. These poems incorporate
the historical details of the
film's era

simplicity, the story is
symbolic and mythical. It is a
variation of the alchemist's
myth. It portrays the complex

eventually liberates both,"
explained Kluegar in her senior
thesis prospectus.
It was the first week of
November when Pfluegar
received a letter from Dr.
Hauser, Director of the
University Scholar's Program at
University Park. Pfluegar was

Theft
On November 20, a student reported to Police and Safety that
several articles were stolen from the trunk of his vehicle.
Firework Incident
Police and Safety received a report that someone had set off
fireworkc in Perry Hall. The fireworks were placed in the
men's room and ignited.
Disorderly Conduct
Two students were charged this week with disorderly conduct
as the result of an incident which took place in Perry Hall.
Burglary
A student filed a report of theft to Police and Safety early this
week. An undisclosed amount of money was taken from his
room in the residence halls.
Harassing Phone Call Cases Solved
The Police and Safety department has completed a lengthy
investigation into the many harassing phone calls that have
been reported by students. During the past few months, over
thirty students reported receiving harassing calls. Criminal
charges are currently being filed against all perpetrators.

Pfluegar is an English major
