This week’s Athlete of the
Week is Rusty Brown, a stand
out forward on the men's soccer
team.
Rusty is a sophomore
psychology major from
Pittsburgh, PA. He attended
Penn Hills High School and
played soccer for four years there.
Rusty is the leading scorer on
the team this year despite playing
several games at goalie due to
team injuries.
He has never played goalie
before, but had the first shut out
of the season against Washington
and Jefferson last week.
“I'll play wherever I'm needed if
it will help the team win," said
Rusty.
Before coming to Behrend,
Rusty attended the McKeesport
campus where he played soccer
his freshman year. He was voted
most valuable offensive player,
and most valuable freshman after
that season.
He then decided to transfer to
Behrend with his teammate and
friend Rick Nese, a senior on the
‘earn.

Season
T he best thing
since sliced bread '
by Julie Coughenour
The Collegian
The 1992 women's tennis team
has finished their season with a
winning record of 8-7.
This is the first time in PSU
Behrend's history that the
women's tennis team has
successfully completed a season
with a winning record.
The last two matches of the
season were against Buffalo State
and St John Fisher.
Buffalo State forfeited because
they didn't have enough players,
so Behrend won by default.
Unfortunately, the women lost
to St. John Fisher with a total
score of 3-6 overall.
The team also recently
participated in the Cardinal Irtvite
on October 10 and 11, in
Rochester. They finished third.
Nazareth College won first place,
and R.I.T. took second place.
Anne Marie Faso finished with
the best overall record. A total of
IS wins and only 3 losses.
Faso said that she "learned a lot
this year," and "made a lot of new
friends." She is "glad she decided
to come to Behrend College" and
she is looking forward to next
year.

She feels that all of the girls
got along really well and team
unity was a strong asset this
season.
Coach Gallegos is extremely
pleased with the outcome of the
season. He believes that it is
"the best thing since sliced
bread."
Gallegos is glad the girls kept
everything in perspective, and
didn't go overboard. He had
eleven girls, which is the biggest
team he has had. They all learned
one important concept, there is
no 1' in the word team.
The team achieved their three
goals for the season, which were
1) to have fun, 2) have team
spirit, and 3) "not to kill
sparrows with cannons," in other
words, don't go to extremes.
The team wants to give
special thanks to Coach Gallegos
for everything he did for them.
Team members said, "He really
treated us well."
Even though the fall season is
over, the Lady Lions can't hang
up their rackets yet
In March, during spring break,
they will play at Hilton Head,
South Carolina. They are
participating in the North-South
Classic and the Dixie Conference.
