The Collegian
Mark October 10 on your
calender as a history making
date.
No, not for Penn State losing
to Miami in football, but for the
Lady Lion's volleyball team
hosting their first ever
tournament, the Lion Challenge.
The Lions opened up play
against Noire Dame of Ohio.
Notre Dame must have felt like
Christians in the Roman
Coliseum as the Lions devoured
them 15-11 and 15-13.
The Lions next opponent in
pool play was Suny-Gcnesco.
Unfortunately, this game wasn't
as "SUNY" for the Lions as they
fell 15-13, 13-15 and 8-15.
The Lions then moved into the
..cinifinals to play Thiel College.
The same Thiel College team
that defeated the Lions on
September 17 in their home
opener.
Lightining didn't strike twice,
as the Lions won 10-15, 15-2 and
15-9 to move into the finals
against a tough Buffalo State

"A message from the Homeowners' Association,
sire ... eitner you rempve the basketball hoop
above the drawbridge or they lay siege at dawn.”
The Lions were stampeded by
the team from Buffalo, as they
lost 15-6 and 15-7.
The Lions finished a
respectable second in the inagural
Lion Challenge.
For the tournament, the Lions
"It was a really
competitive
tournament.
Everybody came
in with a chance
of winning it."
-Coach Jan Wilson
recorded 126 kills, 13 serving
aces and 23 serving errors.
Sophomore Carrie Gr/.eka was
named to the all tournament
team.
Coach Wilson commented on
The Collegian
the Challenge by saying, "it was a
good tournament. It was a really
competitive tournament.
Everybody came in with a chance
of winning it."
A key to the Lions success was
the changing of their offensive
setup from a 6-2 to a 5-1.
This means that instead of two
setters the Lions are now using
only one.
On October 8, the Lions
travelled to Meadville to play
Allegheny College. The Lions,
fell 15-8, 15-4, and 15-6.
The Lions were happy with the
way they played against a tough
Allegheny team.
Wilson said, "We played
pretty well. Allegheny is one of
the better teams around."
The Lions return to Eric Hall
on the 20th to play Pitt-Bradford.
They close out the 1992 home
schedule on the 24th in a
trimatch against Westminister
and Grove City.
The Lions end the season on
the 29th against John Carroll.
