Are you ready for
THE CHALLENGE?
by Joe Mottillo
The Collegian
On October 10, the Lady
Lions will host their first ever
volleyball tournament, the Lion
Challenge.
The first two opponents for
the Lions in pool play will be
Notre Dame at Ohio and SUNY-
Genesco. The Notre Dame match
begins at ten o'clock.
The other teams making the
trip to Erie Hall for the
Challenge are Washington and
Jefferson (PA), Buffalo State and
Pitt-Bradford.
Coach Wilson commented
on the tournament by saying,
"The team is looking forward to
the tournament. 1 think that we
are capable of winning the whole
thing."
If the Lions were hoping to
come into the tournament on a
roll, they failed as they lost their
last three matches before the
tournament.
On October 1, the Lions
packed up their bags and traveled
to Washington, PA to play a set
of matches. The first was against
a hot team, Washington and
Jefferson.
After winning the first game,
16-14, the Lions lost the next
two 15-5 and 15-5. "We played
flat," said Wilson after the match.
The Lions didn't have time
to mull over their loss as they
took on Pitt-Johnstown right

Service errors were once
again the downfall of the Lions
as they committed 16 of them.
For the season, the team has
recorded 542 kills. "Kill wise,
the team has improved since last
season, ” noted Coach Wilson.
Making up the bulk of those
542 kills are Carrie Grzejka, 171;
Lori Nadolny, 98: and Pam
Torrelli, 77.
Other key leaders are Pam
Allshouse and Susan Steam, with
33 and 26 serving aces and
Grzejka and Amy Stranahan with
38 and 22 solo blocks
respectively.
Not only are the Lions ready
to improve these statistics, but
they are also hungry for some
victories. The Challenge could
be something that could fulfill
their needs.
after. The Lions won the first
game, 15-11, but that wasn't
enough as they dropped the next
two, 15-13 and 16-14.
"We picked it up from
Washington and Jefferson, but we
didn't play well enough to win,"
said Wilson.
Another reason the Lions
didn't win was the fact that they
committed nine service errors in
each match.
The Lion's next match was
against Bethany, as they returned
to Behrend to try to end their two
match losing streak, but failed.
The scores were 15-6,9-15,15-3,
9-15 and 7-15.
