WEmrnmmmmmmmat totmnkiHtr • Dng-Ftoi Arnmet Am would like to specially congratulate Bridget Nelson our, New Brother The Collegian Keith McFall The Collegian This week's athlete of the week is again another one of the outstanding women's tennis players who has put forth an extra effort on the court to win our sports section's top honors. Rhonda Dennison is a Freshman Biology major from Punxsutawncy, PA. She attended Punxsutawney High School, where she played three years on her high school tennis team. "She's not faster than a speeding bullet, but she comes close" She was recruited to Behrend by tennis coach, Dan Gallegos from a recruitment list he had received. "I couldn't believe that someone would come to Punxy to recruit,” said Rhonda. Three of the factors in her choosing Behrend were the smallness of the school, its beauty, and also the organized tennis program we have here. In a tri-match against Waynesburg and Thiel last week, Rhonda won two matches at number six singles and two matches at number three doubles. These victories helped the team win both matches by close margins, edging out Thiel 5-4 and Waynesburg 6-3. "She's not faster than a speeding The Collegian We may not come out as often as USA TODAY, but we don't print stupid kiddie-graphs either. Page 13 bullet, but she comes close," said Coach Gallegos referring to Rhonda's quickness on the court. Some of Rhonda's strengths are that she is a team player, has a lot of spirit, listens well, tries hard, and is very dependable. "Her main weakness is that she is a Freshman, which gives her a lack of experience," said Gallegos. Rhonda's own personal goals for the season arc to play to the best of her ability and have fun while doing it, and also to gain more experience -Coach Dan Gallegos with each match. Rhonda's activities off the tennis court include swimming and life guarding during the summer, and she was also involved with ballet for ten years before coming to Behrend. She is interested in the Biology Club here and is thinking of joining sometime in the future. Rhonda is considering staying at Behrend for four years, but isn't sure if she will, depending on the requirements of her major. In the meantime, she is looking forward to her first year at Behrend and the new experiences it will bring.
