Lions split Pwith Grove The weather-tested baseball Lions earned a split Saturday on the road with Grove City College. The split placed the overall record at 5-12 entering the final two doubleheaders of the season. In game one, Scott Frantz started the game on the hill and finished, overcoming a shaky three-run first for GCC. Meanwhile, the Lions' bats were red-hot, picking up two runs in the second, and four in the fourth on their way to a 9-3 win. Jim Tibor led off the rally in the second with a single. Andy Wheeling plated Tibor with a double and scored moments later on Dave Mazur's RBI single. In the fourth, the Lions hammered out five hits to plate four runs and to blow open the game. Dan Shrock led off with a single and was pushed up on a walk to Tibor, a single by Shawn Krepps, another single by Mazur, Clarification On April 23, 1992, The Collegian contained a letter to the editor entitled "Poor Sport" that I had submitted. I would like to clarify a few items of that letter. First of all, this particular basketball player was only labeled as such for identification purposes only. Secondly, this particular basketball player was a member of the 1990-91 men's basketball team and not this year's squad. By that time, Frantz was on cruise control and well on his way to picking tip win #4 on the season. Overall, the righthander limited the Wolverines to eight hits and the three first inning runs. Multi-hitters for the Lions in game one was Frantz, Krepps, and Mazur. Dan Shrock started game two and pitched well despite losing 4- 2. The Lions got off to a solid start plating two runs in the first. Chris Myers hit his second dinger of the campaign to lead things off. Back to back doubles by Shrock and Tibor scored the second run. The Lions collected five singles the rest of the way but were shut out by the Wolverine staff. Tibor was the lone Lion with two hits. attitude does not reflect on either last year’s or this year's team. Coach Fred Paulsen has done a great job with the talented individuals on this campus, and even led this year's team to a second place finish in the E.C.A.C. I apologize for any disrespect that Coach Paulsen or his team members may have experienced, with the exception of this one particular person. The Lady Lions won the first game 4-3, but dropped the second game 3-2. The Lady Lions 4-3 win ended a 16 game winning streak for Bethany. Last Wednesday the Lions swept a doublchcader against Notre Dame 3-1 and 10-0. Wolfe was the winning pitcer in the first game. She pitched a two hitter and the only run she gave up was unearned. Sophomore Kim Boyd was one for two with a triple and a walk. Puttemann picked up the win in the second game. She pitched five scoreless innings to earn her fifth win of the season. She struck out five and only walked one batter. Freshman Karen Strait and Sue Mazur each had two RBl's. Boyd walked three times and scored a run. Junior Darcie Bradley was one for two with a double and a walk. She also scored and knocked in a run. The Lady Lions played yesterday against Grove City and will finish the season Saturday at Geneva College.
