That forces us to rent cheap videos instead of venturing out to watch nice and new releases. As finals week On a broader scale this movie brings out important issues that have struck our lower class: violence, drugs, poverty, etc. It will open your eyes to a world most of us are oblivious to. approaches, give yourself a little break and catch these two flicks. Dying Young Julia Roberts as the nurse and Campbell Scott as the terminally ill patient combine their acting abilities into the typical nurse/patient relationship. Patient meets nurse. Nurse cares for patient. And the two fall in love. This film turns into a real tear-jerker when Scott's character sss $ $ EARN Q A A 33 3 3 The Penn State Educational Partnership Program (PEPP) is looking for college students interested in earning extra money beginning in the Fall 1992 semester tutoring middle school students. The PEPP Academies are located at Wayne and Wilson Middle Schools in Erie. The first hour of the Academy is spent with the students working on their homework. Small group activities and field trips are also planned. Tutors are needed Monday thru Thursday, 2:45 p.m. • 5:00 pm., beginning Monday, September 28,1982. You can pick the dayfsl you want to work according to your schedule. The pay is $5.00 per hour. If transportation is a problem, carpooling may be available. Boyz in the Hood Actor/rapper Ice Cube debuts as Doughboy, a gang member from South Central Los Angeles. Larry Fishburne, a face you’ll recognize, plays the powerful father figure who heips his son grow up in this gang-infested neighborhood and try for something better in his life. The character of Tre Stiles also adds to the talented cast. The story begins with these characters as children in a bad section of South Central Los ssssss MONEY sd> d* 333 3 3 The Collegian Angeles. We follow the boys as they grow up and cope with the violence and corruption around them. We pause for their teenage years and spend most of the film with these characters in their late teens. The characters and their actions are developed through their family lives. Most of the characters lack a strong parental influence, but Tre Stiles rises above them and learns what he needs to know in life from his father. On a broader scale this movie brings out important issues that have struck our lower class: violence, drugs, poverty, etc. Having a strong family structure helped Tre and led him out of the ghetto. This movie will open your eyes to a world most of us are oblivious to. sssssssss TUTORING Top Ten Spring-Type Movies 10. Cflnnibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death / Casablanca These two films are both romantic dramas with action, adventure, thrills and suspense. The first film, although not made for the entire family, is definitely a soon-to-be video classic. The second film, already a classic, is making a comeback on its 50th anniversary. 9. The Little Mermaid After viewing this animated love story, the chances for a romantic situation are well above average. It's something to keep in your 8. Can't Buy Me Love Patrick Dempsey stars in this film as a rich nerd who pays the hottest girl in school to go out with him. What was once a job to her turns into a way of life as she falls head-over-heels for the geek. It's a mushy kind of film that will send the pocket-protector gang down to the bank to make an immediate withdrawal. 7. Pretty Woman Never before has a more believable movie been thrust upon the audience of the world. A disgustingly filthy rich executive type can't get a date so he picks up a hooker and they fall in love. This movie is similar to Can't Buy Me Love, but the disgustingly filthy rich executive type could afford to buy his love. 6. Point Break Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, both mega-talented, star in this talc about surfing bank robbers and the FBI agent who is supposed to catch them. Swayze loses the girl but gets to ride the waves, and Reeves gets the girl but throws away his career as a government agent Yeah sure! 5. 101 Datamations The theme follows Disney's usual format one good woman, one good man, one horrid woman and two great Dalmatians who trot across England to save their fifteen puppies. The puppies are stolen by two villians who are preparing to scalp them for the evil Cruclla. Though the theme was typical, its a great love story; even for big people. 4. When Harry Met Sally This was a really great love story. They don't make 'em like this anymore. It's witty, emotional, believable and the performances by Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are superb. They play characters everyone can relate to and put them in situations we've all been in. THIS is the kind of film you can rent on the first date with your significant other. 3. About Last Night Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jim Belushi, and Elizabeth Perkins star in this movie about single life in Chicago. Lowe and Moore meet in a singles bar and "do it" the first night they meet. The following day, they deal with the stereo-typical guilt and emotions we're all supposed to feel. The rest of the film is full of the ultimate in guy/ girl talk as the two try to sort out their feelings and let the romance go its course. 2.9 H 2 Weeks What can one say about this movie besides SEX. Mickey Rourke and Kim Bassinger star in this film about SEX. If you want to see this film, you're going to have to rent it more than once. The couple times: SEX SEX SEX, after that, you may pick up on the story and the plot. 1. Say Anything This was such a great romantic film that mere words cannot describe it, but since I can't draw a picture for you I guess I'll have to try. It is a romantic comedy about... about...about an hour and a half long. Just trust me and rent it.
