explains the purpose for the
expenditure, but state whether or
not the expenditure comes from
university-allocated funds or
private funds.
"It is university policy that all
student organizations maintain an
account with the Student
Government Association (with a
couple of exceptions) and all
funds raised by the organization
must be deposited into that
account," Reber continued.
The policy exists, according to
Reber, to maintain a tighter
control over allocated money.
Greek organizations are

accounts outside the university,

Bowen said the change was an
unavoidable one, considering the
declining number of. women
living on campus.
"As of spring break we had 47
female vacancies in our rooms,"
said Bowen. "The question isn't
'why don't more women live at
Behrend' as it is 'why don't more
women come to Behrend," Bowen
said. "I'm sure if more women
came to Behrend they would want
to live here."

"Next year we are going to
require Greek organizations to
deposit their funds into an SGA
account so that we can begin to
tighten up on their ability to
have outside accounts."
According to Reber, the misuse
of funds is rare and often
unintentional. When, as in the
case earlier this year, a
misappropriation does occur, it is
often discovered quickly through
an internal audit of the account.
In addition to internal audits,
Behrend clubs must also be
prepared for "surprise" audits
conducted randomly by
University Park officials.

If it is discovered that an

organization's funds, an
investigation is conducted by
Police and Safety.
"If there is evidence that
someone has broken the law it is

room for improvement.

the segregation of procedures, but
they would be better hiring and

As to why more women don't
attend, Bowen said he wasn't
sure.
"I don't know why more
women don't come to Behrend.
;Perhaps jt's a lack of female
s oriented programs. Mhny of the
programs here are male
dominated," said Bowen
McLaughlin disagreed.
"He (Bowen) told us that the
reason more women don't come
to Behrend is that we don't have
female-oriented majors, such as
nursing," she said. ”1 don’t know
what majors have to do with
gender, anyhow."
Pleaded Guilty
On Monday a student pleaded
guilty to retail theft at District
Justice Peter Nakoski's court and
will be sentenced at a later date.
