Thursday, April 2,1992 ECAC title retracted: Point shaving by Maury Povich The Collision For the first time since the Tulane scandal in 1985, another university is caught in a point shaving controversy. An NCAA committee is presently beginning an investigation of the Penn State - Behrcnd Lady Lions' basketball program. The litigation filed by the NCAA proposes that the coaching staff, comprised of Head Coach Jenepher Banker, and assistant coaches Brett Banker and Paul Benim, were directly involved in a brutal point shaving scandal during the ECAC playoffs. It is also believed that this particular staff has involved itself in various accounts of illegal recruiting procedures such as providing players with cars and social cash. In addition, legal action is pending against three Behrend players who supposedly participated in this infraction. "The fix is on for tonight's game.". Thafchilling phrase went from the mouth of one Behrend basketball coach to the ears of some friends prior to the first round of ECAC playoff game against Wesley College. Those words ultimately led to an investigation that erupted in Erie last week and sent tremors nationwide. The coaching staff, along with the aid of three players (names withheld), made sure the Lady Lions demolished Wesley College and covered the spread. The Morning Vegas Line had the Lady Lions roaring as 22 point favorites. NCAA investigators who reviewed the game between Wesley and Behrend noted that the coaching staff left starters in versus Wesley back-ups. This footage displays Banker commanding her team to maintain their fullcourt pressure defense with 55 seconds left in regulatin and already up 23 points. The Lady Lions utterly destroyed Wesley and cruised to a 71-41 victory. The Lady Lions obviously covered the spread. Assistant coach Brett Banker refused to comment on the allegation. Banker was once an all-star at Tulane University, and may soon be the topic of some hot interrogation. A warrant for the arrest of the three suspected baksetball players has been issued. These individuals along with the Lady Lion coaches are accused of receiving $900.00 each for making sure Behrend didn’t cover the 14 point spread it was favored by on March 8 versus Froslburg (6148). Following the Froslburg win, a reliable source overheard a member of the coaching staff remark, "Hey, we won the game, and we still got all the money." We at The Collision are trying to raise enough money to post his bail, and obtain enough signatures to hopefully persuade the powers to be to let him go. Please direct all cash, personal checks, and money orders to Sports Editor Greg Geibel, and I will then take it from there...probably to Jamaica. And I thank you for your support. This is all a joke. It might not be all that funny, but it's still a joke. Page 7 Lilley is also under close investigation. Lilley has been known to bet heavily among his mafia friends on NBA games. It is rumored that Lilley was the brainchild behind the scandal, using the Lady Lions coaching staff as a puppet.
