Sports
Last fall, the Intramural
Department held the Schick
Superhoops 3 -vs- 3 Basketball
Tournament.
It was the first time the 3 -vs
-3 tournament was held in
conjunction with Schick
Superhoops. Participants
received free Schick razors, the
opportunity to win Superhoops
T-shirts and bags.
The biggest incentive though,
was the chance to compete in a
regional competition at Ohio
State University, and the
championship in the Cleveland
Coliseum.
Entered in Behrend's
tournament were 25 men's teams
and four women's teams. The
champion in the men's division
was the team of Kurt Richards,
Jeff Cowan, Rick Demski, and
Bob Weaver.
The women’s division saw the
team of Alexis Pasteur, Aisha
Norflett, Barbara Turner, and
Kelly Burkhardt take the win.
On Saturday, Feb. 22, each of
these teams made the trip to Ohio

State University to compete in
the regional event.
The Regional Competition
featured 26 men's teams from the
Buckeye Region and 10 women's
teams. Both Behrend teams were
placed in three team Round
Robin Leagues. The teams were
then seeded, depending on how
many games they won in Round
Robin play, and then placed in a
Single Elimination
Championship Bracket.
The Behrend women went 1-1
in Round Robin play. They lost
33-27 to Dayton University and
defeated Central University 25-24
as a CU player missed the last of
three free throws with no time
left on the clock.
The Behrend women, however,
then exited the tounament in the
first round of single elimination
play as they went down fighting
to Youngstown State University,
33-27.
The Behrend men also went 1-1
in Round Robin play. They
defeated Hocking Tech, 50-21,
then fell to Bowling Green State

University, 38-28.
In the Championship Bracket,
the men caught fire. Cowan
began bombing three-pointers,
Demski and Weaver got every
rebound, and Richards did the
defensive dirty work. In the first
round, the men defeated
Columbus State 42-32.
The next victims were Tiffin
University and the Community
College of Allegheny County as
they fell 38-33 and 48-44
respectively.
The next game, versus
Youngstown State, was to decide
who went to Cleveland and who
stayed home. The Behrend men
did not disappoint any fans as
they pounded YSU, 60-40.
In the Championship Game at
the Richfield Coliseum, the men
faced Cedarville College for the
Buckeye Region Championship.
The game saw both teams take
several leads.
However, the Behrend men
prevailed as Demski hit a free
throw with no time left on the
clock to seal a 28-27 victory.
