Athlete of the Week
Byron Thorne
6'2", Sophomore, Pittsburgh, PA
In four contests last week (2-2 for the
Lions), Thorne averaged 14 ppg on 51
percent shooting, 3.75 rebounds per
game, one steal, and 3.2 assists.

Lady Lions all over Oberlin

As all of us checked off the last
day of January on our calander,
the women’s basketball team
completed the month with a
stupendous 10-1 record.
The Lady Lions started right
where they left off and began
February with another "W" to
improve to an outstanding 17-2
thus far in the 1991-92
campaign.
Behrend exploded for an 18-2
start in the first seven minutes
over Oberlin and never looked
back. The squad raced out to a 35-
20 lead at the break behind eight
points from Heather Shearer and
six from freshman Karen Strait.

The National Softball
Coaches Association (NSCA) has
recognized Penn State-Behrend as
one of the Top-10 Division 111
Academic Teams in the country.
Last season the Lady Lions,
who finished 19-10 on the field,
also performed outstanding off
the diamond by earning a
cumulative grade point average of
3.20, the sixth best in the

Point guard Wendy Ebingcr,

grabbed four rebounds, dished out
four assists and had a team high

Behrend played like a cohort of
thieves Saturday. The Lions were
credited with 24 steals in the

In addition, Behrend forced the
Yeoman into an incredible 44

Behrend team hit 46 percent of
their shots and held Oberlin to a
dismal 30 percent from the floor.
A balanced scoring ledger was
lopped by Shearer’s even dozen,
on 6 x 10 shooting, Strait
meshed 11, and Becky Swartz
was four of five for an even 10.
Michelle Grover knocked down
eight and freshman Megan
Musante was perfect from the
floor hitting for six.
The Lady Lions have only
three remaining home dates on
the schedule. February 10th
against Westminster, on the 13th
verses Thiel, and on the 20th
against Geneva.

experience. The success we’ve
had on the field (56 wins in three
seasons) has been the result of
quality people, leadership, and
pride, some of the same attributes
that lead to solid grades," Banker
