Essay Contest: The Lion Ambassadors arc
sponsoring the "Why Penn State-Behrend is
Special to Me" contest through Nov. 15. Best
essay will be awarded a $5O prize. Essays can
be turned in to the Development Office on the
second floor of the Glenhill Farmhouse.
Flu Shots Available: Flu vaccine is now
available at the Health Center for the 1991-92
flu season. The cost is $8 per injection.
Free Tutoring Available: All Behrend
students are welcome to utilize the Learning
Assistance Center's services. For more

Center located in the South Cottage.
Delta Sigma Pi Guest Speaker: Carl J.
Schlemmer will speak on Thursday, Nov. 14 in
the Reed Lecture Hall at 7 p.m. All students,
faculty and staff are invited to attend.
Best Student Competition: This annual
contest, sponsored by USA Today, is open to
all full-time undergraduates. For more

New Course Offered: "Peer Education," a
three credit course about drugs and alcohol, is
offered this spring. Class size is limited to 20.

Great American Smokeout: The
National Cancer Society's annual event will
be held next Thursday, Nov. 21. Smokers arc
invited to hide their cigarettes and break the
habit for 24 hours.

Lion Ambassadors trying
to adopt lions at Erie Zoo

Most of us have had some
kind of pet in our lifetimes. And,
by year's end, Behrend will have
three of them.
The Lion Ambassadors arc
presently in the process of fund
raising to adopt three lions at the
Erie Zoo in Behrend's name. In
order to do this though, they need
your help.
Diana Montgomery, president
of the Lion Ambassadors, said

Police and Safety officers were
called to the intramural fields
Sunday when a student injured
his ankle while playing flag
football. The student was
transported to Hamot Medical
Center by Brookside Fire
Company ambulance.
On Monday Police and Safety
officers were involved in two
separate medical calls. In the

from 86 reported offenses in 1989
to 55 offenses in 1990.
However, in looking at the
crime reported in Lawrence Park,
there is an increase in the total
number of part one offenses from
57 reported in 1989 to 73
reported in 1990.

Vending Machine Theft
On Saturday Police and Safety
officers were called to investigate
an unlocked snack machine in
Lawrence Hall. Officers
discovered several items were
taken from the machine and the
coin box had also been emptied.
The incident is currently under
investigation.
