Men's soccer gives
strong O.T. effort
The Collegian
Last Thursday, the men's
soccer team's patience was put to
the test against Buffalo State.
They seemed to have had the
game won until a controversial
call gave the visiting team a
penalty kick with two minutes to
go. Buffalo. State tied up the
score and then won the lame 3-2
"It shouldn't have resulted in a penalty
kick...it was just a bad call."
in overtime
The Behrend team led the
whole game, the first score
coming in the first half off of a
corner kick by Mark Fiorelli
fifteen minutes into the game to
put the Lions on top, 1-0.
Buffalo State came back and
tied it up fifteen minutes later.
It only took a matter of three
minutes for Behrend to regain the
lead.
Is 10% off.

AN OPEN FORUM ON RACIAL PREJUDICE
Is Penn State-Behrend a subtly racist campus? An
overtly racist campus?
What tensions exist among whites and blacks? Among
blacks and Hispanics and Asians?
Does prejudice go both ways?
Are You sick of hearing about cultural diversity and
affirmative action?
THuRSDAY, OCTOBER 17,
Defense prevailed in the
second half as neither team was
able to score until the final
minutes.
With two minutes to go in
regulation time, and Behrend
leading 2-1, a referee made a
controversial call that gave
Buffalo state a penalty kick and a
chance to tie the game.
"I had no choice but to foul
the guy, but it wasn't inside the
box so it shouldn't have resulted
in a penalty kick," said Rick
Nese. "It was just a bad call."
Buffalo State scored off of the
call and sent the game into
overtime.
In overtime, the Behrend team
just couldn't get the ball to go
their way and land in the net.
Buffalo found the net first, and
won the game, 3-2.

October 15, the first legal day
for NCAA Basketball practice has
finally arrived. The men's and
ladie's basketball teams have been
hitting the court to get ready for
the upcoming season.
At 12:01 a.m., Tuesday
morning the sounds of squeaky
sneakers and tickling of the twine
filled Erie Hall as the Lady Lions
held their first practice.
There is a very exciting
atmosphere surrounding the
Ladies team and the players look
forward to an outstanding season.

The recent two months
preceding this opening practice,
the team has been working hard
on and off the court. The women
have been conditioning four days
a week, lifting weights, and
playing pick-up regularly on their
own.
The men's team has also been
hard at work for this season.
"We have a lot of good size
this year, a lot of big guys," said
men's coach Fred Paulsen. "We
also have a lot of good sp vd."
