On the national front...
A billboard that was put up by artist Mark
Heckman in Chicago has been taken down. The
billboard depicted a black golfer on a black golf
cart, holding a white golf ball. The slogan read,
"Afro Country Club. . . where only the ball is
white." According to Heckman, "I used it as a
metaphor for the Country Club mentality, and
the bigotry and prejudice that still pervades in
the American Society." Heckman paid $3,500 for
the billboard to be up for a month, but it was
taken down after a week.

After opening the season with
an unexpected 3-3 record, the
women's tennis team has dropped
to 3-8 overall.
"Injuries and sickness have
plagued the team," said freshman
Cathy Shanshala. "We have had
all kinds of nagging illnesses that
have hurt the team."
"We've been putting a lot of
pressure on ourselves to win"
added Shanshala.
The ladies fell to Gannon 8-1
on Oct: Ist and then to Buffalo
State 5-2 on Oct. sth.
The team now packs up their
bags and heads to Rochester, New
York, for a three day tournament.
There they join Wells College,
Ithaca, St. John Fisher and
Nazareth for the bout. They look
forward to do much better.
Dan Gallegos's squad finishes
up the season Saturday, Oct.
19th, at Carnegie Mellon.
