then let the SGA members into
the office at their request. Senate
turned down the idea.
This led to last night's
compromise, which many
senators felt would give the most
access to SGA members while
keeping the greatest amount of
security for the SGA office.
Lori Royer, vice president of
SOC, however, felt the measure
fell short of what was needed.
"I think council presidents and
committee members should still
have keys," she said. "Council
presidents and committee
members use the computer on a
daily basis. If a senator needs it,
most likely they'll be working
with a council an how.

Washington -- Tensions over a detained United
Nations inspection team have prompted the U.S.
to send almost 100 Patriot missies and 1,300
troops to Saudi Arabia, according to a high
ranking Pentagon official. The move is seen as a
strong message to Iraqi leader Saddam, Hussein
to abandon his nuclear weapons production. The
Patriot missies were scheduled to leave Germany
on Wednesday. The U.N. team was searching
Baghdad for evidence of Iraq's nuclear capability
when Iraqi troops detained the group for the
second time on Tuesday. President Bush said the
deployment of missies and troops to Saudi
Arabia is a defensive maneuver.
Damascus, Syria -- A British hostage was
released Tuesday after being held by kidnappers
for 865 days. Jack Mann, a 77-year-old, was
held by pro-Iranian kidnappers in Lebanon. At
Wednesday's press conference, Mann angrily
protested his imprisionment. "My voice has gone
after 2 112 years of chaining, of saying: 'Do this,
do that. Don't do that!' or 'Be quiet!" Mann
said, who even banged his hand on the table to
demonstrate his captors' orders. An American
hostage may be released within the next few
weeks, according to Hussein lvlusavvi,sthe leader
of the Hezbollah. There are nine Western
hostages still held in Lebanon.

Detroit -- New car sales for North American
built vehicles have dipped 15.8 percent below
last year's sales level, according to reports
released Tuesday. Auto makers had rebounded in
June and July, but have have gradually nose
dived since August.
New Haven, Conn. -- Scientists at the
Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in
New Haven think industries could adapt to a
world effected by the Greenhouse effect.
Consequences from the Greenhouse effect
include the raising of the world's seas and global
warming. One gas-drilling platfrom in the North
Sea, owned by Royal Dutch Shell, will raise its
platforms by six feet in order to compensate for
rising waters.

Erie area video store owners recently attended an
informational meeting with Erie County District
Attorney William Cunningham on obscenity
laws. Pennsylvania has laws which prohibit the
selling or renting of X-rated movies considered
obscene. Even the D.A. said the law was "not
altogether clear," in its definition of qbscenity.
