Sambora finally goes solo b Leslie Bieser The Collegian If you look at Richie Sambora's Stranger in This Town and think "Oh, he's with Bon Jovi" and buy the tape thinking you'll hear a new Bon Jovi album, you are in for a surprise. Sambora has talked about doing a solo album for a long time. He finally pulled it off. He hasn't left Bon Jovi, but he's just taking some time off to pursue his other musical interests. Stranger in This Town (Polygram Records) is perhaps more mellow than any Bon Jovi album. That doesn't mean that it's all slow songs, though. It is a very diversified album. Not only does Richie sing and play guitar on it, he co-produces it with Neil Dorfsman. It was recorded at Skyline Studios in New York. The first single is "Ballad of Youth." This is the last song Richie wrote for this album. As he stated in a recent interview, "Basically the message is blues: 'Don't - "waste your life away thinking about yesterday's blues.' You'll make mistakes--everyone does, but you'll get through it." Richie is undecided about the second release. It is likely to be "Church of Desire" or "Stranger in This Town." "Church of Desire" is about a time in a relationship when you're at a Quiet Roommate Wanted. 2 rooms: 1 - sloo.oo+utilities 1-sl2o.oo+utilities; unfurnished appliances. Call 899-7848. Date: Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24 Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Place: Outside the Bookstore standstill. You want to get back together, but you are both too proud to apologize. "Stranger in This Town" is a song which Richie describes: "In every town on the road, I'm a stranger. The song is about me, but it's also about the homeless situation. I realize how lucky I am." Other songs on Stranger in This Town include "One Light Burning," "The Answer," "Rosie," and "Mr. Bluesman." Thirty-two-year-old Richie began writing "One Light Burning" and "The Answer" when he was only nineteen. "One Light Burning" is about being young, just discovering love and being very confused. Richie feels it is a song everyone can relate to. "The Answer" opens with 'The lightning flashed as angels rode fiery charges through the clouds. That answer scared me into tears and all the grownups laughed out loud.' "Rosie" is a song he co-wrote with Jon Bon Jovi. It was almost on Bon Jovi's New Jersey album, but didn't make the final cut. "Mr. Bluesman" features a guitar solo by the great Eric Clapton. Eric was Richie's inspiration many years ago. This song is about a young kid aspiring to be a guitar player. If you like Bon Jovi or even if you just prefer guitar oriented rock, I don't think you'll regret buying this album. FTM Mature persons. Pleasant, profitable business. Set your own hours.
