Women's tennis boosts record to 3-3

The Collegian
The Lady Netters overcame
windy and somewhat chilly
conditions to drop Theil and
improve their record to 3-3.
After winning her singles
match 6-1, 6-2, Cathy Shanshala
remarked that "the key to
winning is to concentrate and to
stay focused. You must key in on
your opponent's weaknesses to
win". Shanshala also added that
"our team is like a family, we
work hard and deserve to win".
Dan Gallegos is in his second
year as head coach for the Lady
Lions. "We were 2-8 last year,"
said Coach Gallegos, "and we are
already 3-3 in '9l and this is a
very young team. I expect great
things hem these ladies. They are
hard workers."
Assisting Dan Gallegos with
coaching duties is Gerald Spates.
The Ladies next match is at
Theil, Monday, Sept. 23.

splits doubleheader

The Collegian
Penn State-Behrend and
Allegheny College shared a
baseball doubleheader Sunday on
the Lion's home diamond.
Behrend claimed the opener 8-1,
while Allegheny posted a 12
inning, 22-15 victory in the
nightcap.
In the fust game Scott Frantz
pitched six innings of six-hit
ball. Frantz also ignited the
offensive attack in the fourth
inning with a single, a stolen
base, and scored on Bill Graham's
double.
Transfer student Chad
Dworsky singled in Graham and
Behrend was on its way. Graham
provided much of the offensive
support blasting a double and
Men's soccer loses 5-1

The Collegian
The men's soccer team
suffered a tough loss Saturday
afternoon against Baldwin-
Wallace College. The game,
which was played at home, ended
in a 5-1 win for Baldwin-Wallace.
Vince Pedmza scored Behrond's
only goal, with the assist going
to Rick Neese. Pedraza is a
sophomore from Fairfax, VA and
Neese is a junior from
Pittsburgh, PA.
The game was actually a lot
closer than the fmal score shows.

debut.
In the finale, Behrend lost in a
slugfest 22-15. Rick "Will"
lacobucci led off the first inning
with a walk, proceeded to steal
second and third and then scored
on Graham's baseknock.
Dworsky was walked and two
more were plated home on Dave
Mazur's base hit. Mazur, Bill
Weimer, and Brett Joint all had
two hits for the 1-1 Lion's.
This weekend the squad stole
18 of 20 bases against
Allegheny.
Behrend participates in the
third annual Edinboro Fall
Baseball Classic this Saturday
against Gannon.
Two goals were scored by
Baldwin-Wallace late in the
second half.
Behrend actually had more
shots on goal than Baldwin-
Wallace, 11-10. The goal keepers
were David Gill (Ist halt) and Joe
Gaeittner (2nd half) for Behrend,
and Paul Vargo roamed the net
for Baldwin-Wallace.
The defeat leaves Penn State-
Behrend with a record of 1-3.
Baldwin-Wallace moves to a
2-3-1 mark.
Behrend's next home games
are Sept. 18 vs. Geneva; and Sat.
Sept. 21 vs. St. John Fisher.
