Thursday, April 25, 1991 Fraternity (continued from page 1) involved in this situation and ensuring that similar events do not happen again in the future," explained Dean of Student Services Dr. Chris Reber. Reber scheduled a meeting with Assistant Dean of Student Services David Shields, Behanna, and former Sigma Kappa Nu President Steve McClain yesterday. Although Reber hesitated to speculate on the meeting's SGA Elections... (continued from page 1) people know what it is we do and how we can help students more. Next year I'd like to have SGA work more as an advocate for the students, helping them solve their problems and making university decisions that directly affect them," he said. In the vice-presidential race, Jason Bates beat rivals Jeffery Nicholson and Diana Ziemniak by a large margin. Bates won 182 votes while Nicholson had 107 and Ziemniak received 87. Again, the remaining 24 students did not vote. All other student government positions went uncontested. According to current SGA President Ted Hacker, the elections went well, although he was disappointed by the voter turnout. "The elections went well, but I wish we didn't have the poor voter turnout that we did. Last year we had 20-30 more voters than this year," he said. Hacker added he didn't think charged... outcome, he did mention the possibility of involvement by the student organization Hearing Board. "Since the incident occurred at an off-campus location, several restrictions to the Hearing Board's power do apply," Reber said. "However, it is quite possible that the Board will review the case and take action." As of Tuesday, the fraternity had not yet received formal notification of the lawsuit. the lack of campaigning by the presidential candidates hurt election results. "For the most part, voters were torn between candidates and weren't sure which to vote for. I honestly don't think people were voting haphazardly." One of the largest concerns following this year's election is the number of candidates running for office. Election officials reported voters complaining of only one or two choices per office, or being asked to circle nine choices for commuter and resident senators and finding a total of eight names. To change this, Student Services and SGA are working to recruit future leaders and establish new programs. "This year we held an Open Forum for candidates," said Dr. Christopher Reber, Dean of Student Services. "It wasn't promoted well, which hurt this year's election, but hopefully it will increase voter participation in the next couple of years."
