The Health Center has received a limited
amount of the Measles vaccine that is available free to
all students. Immunizations are available during the
usual hours. Stop or call the Health Center at 898-
6217 for more information.
Operation Mail Call Sponsored by Marine
Bank cannot accept personally addressed mail, but
will distribute letters which are addressed "To Any
Service Member." Please drop off any mail at a local
Marine Bank Office.
The Learning Assistance Center, located
in the South Cottage, provides peer tutoring for
Chemistry, Math, Physics, and English. The sign
up sheet for tutoring sessions is inside the entrance to
the center. For more information call 898-6014.
Support Group to discuss the Gulf War will
meet each Thursday in the Reed upstairs lobby at 6
p.m.
Study Abroad Anyone? The deadline for
applying to PSU Education Abroad Programs for
spring semester 1992 is March 1. Contact Mari
Trenkle in the Glenhill Farmhouse at 898-6160.
Over 1500 New Graduates from 31
Western Pennsylvania colleges and universities will
have the opportunity to be interviewed by potential
employers at the Third Annual WestPACS Job Fair
on Thursday, March 7 at the Expo Mart in
Monroeville, PA.
Collection Boxes for Giant Eagle and
Loblaws receipts will be available in the Reed
Building, apartment complex and residence halls, as
well as other campus locations.
Mari Trenkle, coordinator .of Academic Affairs,
is developing a new recruitment newsletter titled
"UPDATE", which will highlight Behrend's majors
and new developments. Submissions by students
and faculty may include awards, research, housing,
athletics, and student activity information. For more
information contact Mari Trenkle at 898-6160.
"Coffee with the Provost," will be held
Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 2 pm in the Reed Seminar
Room.
College and Universities Public Relations
Association of Pennsylvania will issue an award for
$l,OOO. Pick up an application in the Financial Aid
Office. It must be postmarked by Feb. 22.
Junker Leadership Scholarship
applications are now available in the Financial Aid
Office and in the Student Activities Office. The
deadline is March 5.
Commencement for Spring 1991 graduates will
be held on Saturday, May 18, at 12 noon.
Undergraduate caps and gowns are $l4 and must be
ordered from the Bookstore by Monday, April 1.
A Chemical Dependency support group will
begin meeting on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm in the
downstairs classroom of Erie Hall. For more
information call Dr. Louanne Barton at 898-6164
All Commu 001 students and members of The
CoWegian staff must attend the weekly staff meetings
at 8 pm on Thursdays in room 123 of the Science
Building.

Some study abroad trips cancelled

The study abroad program at
Penn State offers students the
opportunity to travel to a
different country and experience
another culture while taking
classes in their field of study.
Students must apply at least a
year in advance and have obtained
a GPA of 2.5 to study abroad.

Behrend, said the program is a
good opportunity for students.

For many young men between
the ages of 20 and 26, the Gulf
war has raised questions
concerning the draft.
During the Vietnam war, full
time college students were
allowed deferments from the draft,
but current laws are more
inclusive.
"Student postponements will
be allowed, but only until the end
of the semester," said Lew

Only one injured in several
campus accidents
There were several automobile
accidents on campus and the area
near the intersection of Jordan and
Station Roads on Jan. 30 and 31.
There was only one injury
reported in an accident on Station
Road near the entrance to Behrend
on Jan. 31. Three vehicles; a
sedan. a pick-up and a delivery
truck. collided between the

"I think joining the study
abroad program is a healthy
opportunity -- it opens your eyes
and allows you to view the world
with a more global perspective."
Entering into the program
isn't that difficult, but some
fields of study or majors are more
competitive than others. The
final decision is based on GPA
when more students apply than
there are spots available in the
program.
To apply for study abroad
programs, the student must write
an essay on why he or she wishes
to study abroad and how the
public affairs.
"Seniors will be allowed to
earn a degree, but will remain
eligible for the draft until they
reach age 26," he continued.
Captain James E. McCarthy
Jr., professor of military science
and Officer in Charge of
Behrend's ROTC detachment, said
"It would be up to Congress to
decide about a draft."
He also mentioned that the
Selective Service System, in a
statement January 11, announced
that the crisis in the Gulf did not
warrant a draft at that time.

Bad Checks
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, a
student was contacted concerning
non-sufficient fund checks written

students have the opportunity to
