After a 10-year hiatus, the
Behrend golf team has spent
the past three seasons getting
back into the swing of
things.
The young squad takes its
0-4 record on the road today
to the Eastern Coast Athletic
Conference qualifier in
Hamilton, NY. Golf coach
David First says their record
reflects a young but growing
team.
"We have a lot of new
and young players on the
team. They’re not used to
playing the competition or
competing in tournaments
yet," he said.
The team includes
veterans Mike Robel and Bill
Poad, as well as first year
players Steve North, Pat
Sandusky and Greg
Yochim.
Another player, Josh
Fasenmyer, has been
sidelined because of a
broken collarbone.
So far, the Behrend
linksters have placed last in
their tournaments, but First
says that's to be expected.
"Right now they do fine
in practice, but once they get
out on the course the nerves
hit. They have potential
though. Steve North has a
good swing, while Bill Poad
and Mike Robel are coming
along nicely.
"Basically everyone on
the squad is capable of
