James Bowen- Manager of
Housing and Fo6d Services
by Lea Gotch
Collegian News Editor
James Bowen, the new
manager of Housing and Food
Services, has a plan for the
upcoming year.
”1 want to get involved with
the students to make sure they
get what they are paying for,”
said Bowen, who has worked in
the Penn State system for the
past four years.
Bowen replaces Phil Giewont,
the previous manager of Housing
and Food Services who was here
for ten years.
Giewont left Behrend to take a
position with Spring Hill
retirement homes, a division of
the Hamot medical center.
...So I ask myself why
my editor Todd always
looks to me to fill these
stupid little spaces that
always seem to pop up
just when we think we
can all go home and
have a few cold ones
and maybe start paying
attention to a class that
gives us more than one
credit, and I decide it
actually has nothing to
do with my writing
ability, but directly
relates to the fact that I
always happen to be
looking bored at those
moments. This one's for
you, Ed.
Bowen began his career with
Penn State as the Assistant
Housing Supervisor at the
Altoona campus. After being
promoted to manager of Housing
and Food services there, he was
transferred to University Park and
moved up to Assistant Housing
manger.
This summer he was promoted
to his present position here at
Behrend.
Bowen, a native of Franklin,
Pennsylvania, says he is glad to
be back in the region.
"I wanted to be closer to home,
but in an area a little bigger than
Franklin," said Bowen.
"So far, I really enjoy the
students, faculty, and staff here.
It's a beautiful campus," he said.

Lillie Wiley takes over as
student services assistant
by Richard S. Gajewski
Collegian Staff Writer
Lillie V. Wiley is Behrend's
new student services assistant,
replacing Glvage Murphy.
Wiley grew up in Lockport,
New York, where she still
resides.
After growing up in Lockport,
Wiley attended Canisius College
in Buffalo, New York where she
graduated in May 1990 with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in
Communications.
Before coming to Behrend,
Wiley worked as a resident
assistant at Canisius and within
the U.S. Attorney's office in
Buffalo where she had extensive
contact with the legal staff. She
also had a position at WGRZ
Channel Two in Buffalo where
she gained practical experience
operating studio equipment and
working within a group to
achieve desired goals.
In August of 1989, Wiley
received an award for outstanding
service from the U.S. Attorney's
Office and an outstanding Senior
Profile award from Canisius in
June 1990.
Wiley's plans for the 1990-91
academic year consists mainly of
getting to know the students and
see which problems, if any, need
to be addressed.
No radical changes will be
made except for the possible
introduction of some new
programs, but the position will
be run basically the same as
before.
Murphy, who was at Behrend
for two years, left to further his
education. His plans included
entering law school with the
possibility of becoming a trial
lawyer.
